The Calgary Flames will try to avoid losing three in a row, all on home ice, for the first time since February 2020 when they play host to the St. Louis Blues on Saturday night. The Flames dropped a 3-2 shootout decision to Los Angeles on Thursday, and have tallied just three total goals during their two-game swoon. The Blue wrap up a stretch of three road dates in four nights after falling 6-5 to the Edmonton Oilers on Friday night.

Despite their current struggles, the Flames remain perched as strong -264 home favourites, and are backed by a large 88% majority of sports bettors. The Blues lag as +219 underdogs, and the total has remained stable at 6.5, with the OVER pegged as a slim -115 favourite.

Blues vs. Flames NHL Betting Odds

Saturday night’s matchup at Scotiabank Saddledome marks the third and final regular season meetings between these clubs. Home teams prevailed by wide margins when these clubs played a home-and-home series in January, with the Flames opening that set with a 7-1 victory. However, the Blues have otherwise dominated in head-to-head action, earning the win in five of six clashes. The Blues have also been largely effective at containing Flames shooters, allowing two or fewer goals in four of six meetings. Despite that stingy play, these clubs have combined to produce mixed results in totals betting, with the OVER/UNDER going 4-4-1 over their past nine dates.

The Flames have tallied just one goal at even strength over their past two contests. They have also scored more than three goals just four times over their past 10. The Blues embarked on an impressive comeback after spotting the Oilers an early 4-1 lead on Friday night. St. Louis has been steady on the road of late, picking up at least a point in 10 of 13 outings. However, the Blues have been outscored by a wide 10-3 margin while losing the past two in a row on the back half of games played on consecutive nights.

St. Louis Blues

Goaltender Ville Husso was forced to forego a night off on Friday after Jordan Binnington was rocked for four goals on 13 shots. Husso responded by stopping 25 of 27 shots to improve to 3-1-1 in his past five outings, and has surrendered just seven total goals in three road appearances. Overall, the Blues have averaged 5.20 goals per game over their past five road dates. On Friday night, it was Pavel Buchnevich’s turn to lead the charge with a pair goals. Buchnevich has now scored four times over his past four games, and produced 14 of his 23 goals on the road.

Calgary Flames

The Flames’ struggles are not due to a lack of effort. Calgary outshot Colorado by a wide 45-30 margin in Tuesday’s loss to the Avs. The duo of Johnny Gaudreau and Matthew Tkachuk have had their chances, but have scored just one total goal on a combined 14 shots over the past two games.

Expect Jacob Markstrom to make a sixth straight start. The talented Swede stopped 58 of 62 shots over the team’s two recent defeats, and has limited opponents to two or fewer goals in eight of 12 outings March 1st.
