Chicago Blackhawks vs. Winnipeg Jets Prediction, NHL Odds
Both have struggled a bit lately, suffered injuries, and in the case of Chicago, have begun selling assets ahead of the trade deadline.
Chicago-Winnipeg March matchups have seen higher stakes in the past. While this is not one of those games, it will be interesting to see who is potentially putting on a tryout ahead of Friday’s trade deadline. It also does not hurt that there is still plenty of star power in this one.
Blackhawks vs. Jets NHL Betting Odds
The Jets are fairly heavy favourites tonight, carrying -160 on the money line and +150 to cover a -1.5 puck line. The Blackhawks are +135 to win outright and -185 to cover. The game total is 5.5 goals, with the over at -120 while the under is +100.
There are no surprises on these lines. Although it has not been pretty for Winnipeg, they have points in six of their last eight and, longer term, in 13 of their last 17. The low game total tracks as well, as the under has hit in five of Winnipeg’s last seven, in five of Chicago’s last six, and in eight of the last 11 head-to-head.
Chicago Blackhawks
Of course, the Blackhawks and their fans would love nothing more than a return to the postseason. But this season has been a win. Their key players took a big step forward, they are still reloading for the future, and remain in position for a great draft pick in a strong entry draft.
Having said that, there is a reason Chicago is poised for another high draft pick. They have two wins in their last 10 games, which has brought them down to 14th in the Western Conference and 29th in the NHL. The Blackhawks have dropped five of their last six on the road and six of the last seven against the Jets.
Winnipeg Jets
The Jets are just a point above the Blackhawks in the standings, but Winnipeg is much more of a head scratcher. The Jets still have much of the on-ice personnel from successful regular seasons of late. A big difference this year is their record in one-goal games.
Winnipeg has nine one-goal wins and 21 one-goal losses. Of those losses, they lost 10 beyond regulation. The margin has been thin for the Jets this year, and they have been on the wrong side of it. This is still a solid team that can give any opponent in hockey a good game.
NHL Prediction: Who Will Win Blackhawks vs. Jets?
Despite just a point separating them on the season, the Jets are the better play. They have one regulation loss in their last six games. Granted, that is far from a brag for them. But points in five of their last six against solid teams should be strong enough form to take care of business against this Blackhawks team.
With the exception of two wins in their last 10 games, Chicago has been beat up during that span. Even with those wins by three goals and four goals, their goal differential in that stretch is -13 due to six multi-goal losses. To make things tougher, Chicago just traded stalwart defenceman Connor Murphy, further depleting any depth they possess. The Jets should handle this one 4-2.
