2019 NHL Trade Deadline Updates: Hockey Rumors and Trades
In the past, NHL Trade Deadline day just hasn’t seen the flood of movement fans (and television networks) expected. Some of that is because many of the league’s general managers try to get ahead of the pack and swing deals ahead of deadline day and one of the other issues is just, well, it’s really hard to make trades in today’s National Hockey League.
Once you take cap space, contracts, draft picks and playoff positioning into account that ends up being a lot of hoops to jump through before you can even entertain the thought of exchanging players based on their actual skill sets.
So, here we are. Whether deadline day sees a ton of trades or a few minor moves, the rumor mill is heating up. Keep this page bookmarked as we scour sources to collect the latest rumors and trades leading up to Monday’s deadline.

Winnipeg Jets Trades and Rumors
The Jets are all-in. They’ll be looking to land big fish and add depth for what they’re hoping will be a long playoff run. They’re kicking tires on everybody from Matt Duchene and Kevin Hayes, to Eric Staal and Wayne Simmonds. This is a team to keep a very close eye on.
TRADE: Kevin Hayes has been traded from the New York Rangers to the Winnipeg Jets for a first-round pick, Brendan Lemieux and a conditional pick.
Montreal Canadiens Trades and Rumors
The Habs won’t admit it, but this season has been a pleasant surprise. They’re in the playoff hunt and could certainly use an addition or two. That said, they aren’t going to mortgage the future, so don’t expect them to move many picks or prospects out of town. They did land Nate Thompson from the Kings to help their fourth line and could be in the mix for similar moves.

Toronto Maple Leafs Trades and Rumors
The Leafs already made a big deal to acquire defenceman Jake Muzzin and will probably be interested in adding to the blue line if the price is right. Adam McQuaid’s name has come up in rumors lately and that could be a fit.
Toronto Maple Leafs Transactions
Ottawa Senators Trades and Rumors
Matt Duchene and Mark Stone might be the two names to watch for the next few days. The Senators are openly shopping Duchene, while trying to work out a deal with Stone. Once the price is set for these two players, we should see action pick up.
The Senators have scratched Ryan Dzingel, Duchene and Stone for Thursday’s game against New Jersey, obviously protecting them from injury in case trades are on the way.
TRADE: The Vegas Golden Knights acquire Mark Stone from Ottawa for Erik Bransstrom, Oscar Lindberg, and a second-round pick in 2020.

New York Rangers Trades and Rumors
The New York Rangers haven’t made any significant progress in contract negotiations with Mats Zuccarello, Kevin Hayes, or Adam McQuaid. Reports indicate the Winnipeg Jets, Boston Bruins, Pittsburgh Penguins, Calgary Flames and Dallas Stars are all interested in Zuccarello if the price is right. Hayes is also drawing interest from the Jets and Bruins. The Tampa Bay Lightning and Toronto Maple Leafs could be a fit for McQuaid.
Zuccarello, Hayes, and McQuaid are playing Thursday night at home to Minnesota.
TRADE: The Dallas Stars get Mats Zuccarello from the New York Rangers for conditional 2019 second-round & 2020 third-round picks.
Columbus Blue Jackets Trades and Rumors
Nobody seems to know what the Columbus Blue Jackets are going to do with Sergei Bobrovsky and Artemi Panarin. The Bruins, Stars and New York Islanders are said to be interested in Panarin as a rental. Meanwhile, it’s thought that Columbus has talked to Bobrovsky about a contract extension recently.

Washington Capitals Transactions
Edmonton Oilers Trades and Rumors
Keith Gretzky is in a pickle. He’s been tasked with cleaning up the mess that is the Edmonton Oilers after being named the team’s acting general manager. If he can get the club on the right track and give Connor McDavid a little help, maybe he can hang on to this role. So far he hasn’t been gun shy by moving Ryan Spooner to Vancouver to bring back Sam Gagne and picked up goaltender Anthony Stolarz from the Philadelphia Flyers in exchange for netminder Cam Talbot, but that could be the tip of the iceberg. He’s looking to move big contracts to clear the books and wants to add wingers.
Calgary Flames Trades and Rumors
The Flames are in a good spot. They’re cruising along in first place in the Western Conference and have most of their main guys under contract for the next few years. Calgary doesn’t need to make a splash – unless Brad Treliving can improve this team drastically. The Flames have been linked to Zuccarello and Stone.
RUMOUR: Word has it the Flames won’t be in the mix to land Mark Stone.
San Jose Sharks Trades and Rumors
TRADE: The Detroit Red Wings are sending forward Gustav Nyquist to the San Jose Sharks for a 2019 second-round pick and a conditional 2020 third-round pick. Nice depth pickup for the Sharks here as Nyquist should provide some offence. Nyquist had 16 goals and 49 points with the Red Wings.
