After moving on from Justin Fields in the off-season, the Bears are hoping they have finally found their franchise quarterback in Caleb Williams. There are a lot more question marks when it comes to the Titans, the most pressing being whether second-year quarterback Will Levis is ready to lead the team.

Chicago opened as a 3.5-point favourite to win on the NFL odds, with the total set at 45.0.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis

There’s not much head-to-head history as the teams haven’t met since 2020. Tennessee has won three of four matchups since 2008, including the last two.

Both teams missed the playoffs last season. The Bears finished at the bottom of the NFC North division with a 7-10 record, while the Titans were in the basement of the AFC South at 6-11.

Chicago has missed the playoffs for three straight years and they haven’t won a postseason game since 2010. The Titans were in the playoffs three years ago and they made it as far as the AFC championship game in 2019.

Each team is a long shot to win the Super Bowl with the Bears at +3500 on the NFL futures board and Tennessee at +15,000.

If you’re looking for amore realistic Chicago future, the Bears’ playoff odds are even at -110. A more attractive option for the Titans is to bank on them finishing with Under 5.5 wins at +140.

Tennessee Titans

All eyes will be on Will Levis in this game as begins his first full season as a starter. Levis took over in Week 8 last year after Ryan Tannehill suffered an ankle injury. He finished his rookie year with 1,808 passing yards, eight TDs and four interceptions. Levis will have a new primary target in Calvin Ridley, who was signed in free agency after recording his second career 1,000-yard receiving season last year with Jacksonville. Tony Pollard also signed in free agency after his second straight 1,000-yard rushing season with Dallas last year.

Injuries are a concern for Week 1. Receiver DeAndre Hopkins (knee) is listed as questionable after struggling in the pre-season. Safety Jamal Adams (hip) is also questionable, which doesn’t help a Titans team that had the 17th-ranked total defence last year and the 18th-ranked passing defence.

Chicago Bears

It’s a new era for the Chicago Bears as Caleb Williams makes his NFL debut. Despite completing just half of his passes in the pre-season, Williams looked good in exhibition play. He averaged 8.5 yards per attempt and drew comparisons to Patrick Mahomes with his playmaking-skill, athleticism and arm talent outside the pocket. The Bears insulated Williams with plenty of receiving talent with the likes of  DJ Moore, Keenan Allen and fellow top-10 rookie Rome Odunnze. D’Andre Swift, who finished with a career-high 1,049 rushing yards with Philadelphia last year, will lead the ground attack.

It’s worth keeping an eye on Allen’s foot injury. He’s expected to play, but he missed time at practice this week, so he’s clearly not 100 per cent healthy.
