Texans vs. Jaguars Point Spread: NFL Week 15 Odds, Prediction
The Jaguars return home riding a five-game losing streak after getting blown out in both halves of a two-game road trip, capped by last weekend’s 20-0 loss in Tennessee. Currently knotted with Jacksonville with a 2-11 record, the Texans hit the road riding a three-game slide after falling 33-13 to the visiting Seattle Seahawks last weekend.
The Texans have faded to 4-point underdogs since opening at +3 despite commanding 81% of the betting action. The total has also steadily declined since opening at 41.0, falling to 39.5. However, it is the OVER that has attracted a slim 57% majority of bets.
NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis
Sunday afternoon’s matchup at TIAA Bank Field marks the second and final meeting of the season between these AFC South rivals. The Texans claimed a 37-21 home victory over the Jags in Week 1, paying out as 3.5-point underdogs. The Texans now ride a seven-game straight up win streak in head-to-head action. They have also covered on five occasions during their current win streak, which features a pair of outright victories as betting underdogs in Jacksonville. However, Houston been as a massive disappointment since posting consecutive against the spread wins to open the season, covering in just three of 11 outings. Things have gone no better for the offensively-challenged Jaguars. The team has covered just once during their current 0-5 run, and lost outright in six of eight overall as home chalk.
Houston Texans
Fresh off yet another dismal performance in last weekend’s loss to the Seahawks, changes are in store for the Texans backfield this weekend. Rusher Rex Burkhead has been confirmed as out with a hip injury, opening the door for David Johnson to return to action after being activated from the Covid list earlier this week. Johnson has also been hampered by a thigh injury in what has been the most disappointing campaign of his seven year NFL career.
David Mills is set return under centre after racking up a career-high 331 passing yards versus Seattle, while receiver Brandin Cooks will be aiming to duplicate the 132-yard receiving performance he enjoyed in the Texans’ Week 1 win over Jacksonville.
Jacksonville Jaguars
The Urban Meyer experiment came to an abrupt and predictable end in the wee hours on Thursday morning. Just 13 games into his tenure as Jaguars bench boss, Meyer was fired by team owner Shahid Khan, and will reportedly be replaced in the interim by offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell. This marks the second time in as many seasons that Bevell has taken over interim coaching reins after replacing Matt Patricia late last season, and leading the woeful Lions to a 1-4 record.
However, it is tough seeing how the move will spark a moribund Jags attack that has produced just one scoring pass and 9.5 points per game over their past six contests. In addition, rushers Carlos Hyde and James Robinson are both listed as questionable due to injuries.
