Panic is starting to set in for a 3-2 Pittsburgh Steelers squad as they travel across the country to face the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday.

Now, 3-2 is a pretty good spot for Pittsburgh to be in through five weeks, but we’re sensing that reality is kicking in, considering this team started 3-0 and is now coming off back-to-back three-point losses. Pittsburgh’s two straight losses have also prevented them from holding the top spot in the AFC North, and with Cleveland and Cincinnati off to 1-4 starts there was an opportunity to bury them. Instead, the race is still on.

Las Vegas’ true colours appear more lousy than good. All three of the Raiders losses have come by double-digits, including a 34-18 drubbing last week at Denver. The Raiders are 2-0 against the AFC North though, including a stunning road win at Baltimore in Week 2. All the trade talk around an injured Davante Adams, who remains out for Week 6, doesn’t help the morale.

Kickoff at Allegiant Stadium begins at 4:05 p.m. EDT with the Steelers -155 to win on the road and the total at 36.5 on the NFL odds.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis

Pittsburgh’s defence remains elite, ranking second in the NFL with 14.6 points allowed. On the flip side, the Steelers offence is 26th in scoring with 18.4 points per game and, just like that, you’ve got a 4-1 record to the Under for Pittsburgh. With the total down at 36.5 and the Steelers a three-point favourite, oddsmakers are projecting a 20-17 Steelers win. The 17 points is slightly above the Raiders average (19.2) this season, but when factoring in this Steelers defence it could be tough to envision Las Vegas hitting that 17-point benchmark.

Home field has treated the Raiders well as of late, going 7-2-1 ATS in their last 10 at Allegiant Stadium. Las Vegas is also 9-3 ATS in their last 12 contests against an AFC opponent. Nine of the last 13 Steelers road outings have finished under the total.

Pittsburgh Steelers

While there’s no indication when a switch could be made at quarterback, Justin Fields now has a fully-healthy Russell Wilson waiting behind him. Wilson was Pittsburgh’s projected starter until a calf injury held him out for the past five weeks. But Wilson returning after two consecutive losses is potentially the perfect storm for the veteran getting a starting spot — or at the very least puts pressure on Fields.

There’s also the fact that if not for costly fumbles and a failed goal-line stand, this Pittsburgh team would be 5-0 with Fields at the forefront. Narratives can be funny. But when all else fails, an elite Steelers D will keep these team in games, and furthermore, feast on weaker offences.

Las Vegas Raiders

It’s Aidan O’Connell’s offence now, as the Raiders are making a quarterback switch after benching Gardner Minshew last week. Minshew completed 12 of his 17 passes in the 34-18 loss at Denver, but tossed two costly interceptions directly resulting in opposition points. O’Connell started the majority of then interim head coach Antonio Pierce’s 2023–24 tenure, and O’Connell’s performance forced him into a QB battle he lost out on in this year’s training camp. In 10 starts last season, O’Connell went 5-5 and had 12 touchdowns to seven interceptions.

But nothing’s guaranteed for the new Raiders starting pivot, as top receiver Davante Adams is still out of the lineup; not to mention the fact this Raiders rushing attack rank 30th in rushing yards per game (84) and 28th in yards per rush (3.9).
