Steelers vs. Eagles Point Spread: NFL Week 8 Odds, Prediction
The Philadelphia Eagles put their unbeaten streak on the line against an in-state rival in Week 8 when they host the Pittsburgh Steelers. Philadelphia has come out victorious in their first six games with phenom quarterback Jalen Hurts and the Eagles are fresh off a bye week. Pittsburgh’s down in the basement of the AFC North at 2-5, rolling with their own young quarterback in Kenny Pickett who they hope can become a phenom after spending a 2022 first round pick on him.
Ironically, at 6-0 the Eagles have a pair of teams in their division right on their tail in the 6-1 Giants and 5-2 Cowboys. And despite Pittsburgh being 2-5, they are two games out of first place in the AFC North while having four more divisional games on their schedule.
Kickoff at Lincoln Financial Field gets going at 1 p.m. EDT, with the Eagles a large favourite at -10.5 on the spread and the total at 43 on the NFL odds.
NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis
The Eagles have been a pretty stout club against the spread, going 4-2 ATS on the year and 3-0 at home (both straight up and ATS). Pittsburgh’s covered in half of their games thus far, but are 1-3 overall on the road and 3-1 to the under in those games. The over is 7-1 in Philly’s last eight home games, and 5-1 in their last six versus AFC opponents.
The Eagles also own a nine-game win streak hosting Philadelphia. In fact, you have to go all the way back to October 1965 to find the last time the Steelers won a road game at Philadelphia.
Pittsburgh Steelers
Sunday night in Miami wasn’t Pickett’s finest moment, but another start and learning experience none the less. Pickett passed for 257 yards and a touchdown but then three interceptions too, one of which unnecessarily came on a potential game-winning drive as the Steelers fell 16-10. Fellow rookie George Pickens caught his first career touchdown in the loss, and recorded six receptions for the third time in his last four games.
What’s most encouraging is Pittsburgh again held their opponent to under 19 points. The Steelers are near the bottom of the league in points (22nd) and yards (28th) allowed per game, as life without T.J. Watt has been tough.
Philadelphia Eagles
The Eagles have put more emphasis than any NFL team on running the football, with a league-high 37.5 carries per game. Philadelphia ranks sixth with 156 rushing yards per game, and are scoring over two times a game on the ground. Miles Sanders is the club leader with 485 rushing yads while Hurts has 293 to go with his 1,514 passing yards. Hurts has made good use of off-season acquisition A.J. Brown so far, as his 503 receiving yards leads the club.
Philadelphia lost All-Pro tackle Lane Johnson to another concussion in Week 6. His status for the Pittsburgh contest is uncertain but otherwise the Eagles are very healthy, and talented, on both sides of the ball. The Eagles remain one of four NFL defences allowing under 300 yards a game.
