Two of the NFL’s best rushing teams and divisional rivals meet in Los Angeles. The Rams were the last undefeated team in the NFL until last week, while the Seahawks fell to the Chargers on home turf.
Odds makers at Sports Interaction have the Rams listed as massive 10-point favourites.
NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis
These two teams met back in week five when the Rams edged the Seahawks 33-31. The Rams are a perfect 4-0 at home this season, and 3-0 within the NFC South division. Meanwhile the Seahawks have played well on the road with a 3-2 record and are 1-1 in the division. The Rams are 5-0 straight up in their last five games when they are double-digit favourites, while the Seahawks are 1-3-1 against the spread in their last five games against winning teams, and are 1-5 ATS in their last six meeting on the road against the Rams. Head-to-head, the home team in this series is 8-3 ATS in their last 11 meetings.
After eight games this season, the Seahawks are a .500 team (4-4). It is a team still trying to find it’s identity after a busy off-season that saw a lot of the old guard make their way out of town. Here’s what we do know; this is a solid defence. Currently ranked seventh in total defence (333.3 yards), the secondary has been very good, ranked sixth against the pass (218.5). But the same cannot be said about the rush defence that is 21st in the NFL averaging 114.8 against. That could be a problem on Sunday afternoon facing the number one running back in the league.
In the team’s last game, Chris Carson rushed for 40 yards in the first quarter, but missed the remainder of the game with a hip injury. No word on his status, but the team did add running back Troymaine Pope to the practice roster. If Carson is not able to start, Mike Davis would likely get the call. Also on the transaction wire, the Seahawks are quietly watching to see what happens to former Oakland Raider Bruce Irwin. Unfortunately for the Seahawks, Irwin signed with the Atlanta Falcons Wednesday morning.
Los Angeles Rams
The Rams are coming off their first loss of the season last week in New Orleans. After the Saints built up a comfortable lead, the Rams battled back from a 21 point deficit to tie it up, but the Saints were too much in the 45-35 win. A lot of insiders thought the Rams were due for a loss, considering in two of their last three games they won by a combined five points. In the game against the Saints, Quarterback Jared Goff threw for just under 400 yards and three touchdowns. He has 20 touchdown passes on the season, that’s tied for third overall among all NFL quarterbacks.
The defence was a different story. The team gave up a season high 45 points, when they have been averaging 22.2 points against. In their previous game against the Seahawks, Goff threw for 321 yards, a touchdown, and two interceptions and Todd Gurley had 113 all-purpose yards. Gurley leads the NFL in rushing with 868 yards, he also has 12 touchdowns.
