Tennessee at Miami, which might be hard to watch with both teams’ current quarterback issues, is the first kick on Monday at 7:30 p.m. ET on ESPN, and then Seahawks-Lions starts at 8:15 p.m. ET on ABC. Seattle catches a break here from a travel perspective in that the game isn’t one of those 1 p.m. ET/10 a.m. PT Sunday kicks. Those are always tough on West Coast teams.
This also easily could be an NFC playoff preview with Seattle a surprise leader atop the NFC West at 3-0 and Detroit (2-1) a game out of the NFC North lead held by surprising Minnesota, but the Lions are still betting favourites to repeat there.
Including one playoff game, Seattle is 13-5 all-time vs. Detroit and won at Ford Field in Week 2 last year 37-31 in overtime – the third straight high-scoring game between them and the Seahawks’ sixth straight win in the series. The Lions rallied from down 10 with under four minutes in regulation to tie on a 38-yard field goal as time expired, but the Seahawks’ Geno Smith threw a 6-yard touchdown pass to Tyler Lockett on the opening drive of overtime for the win. It was the first OT game in the series. Seattle is 5-0 ATS in the past five meetings.
Seattle Seahawks
It’s hard to know if Seattle is a legit NFC contender at 3-0 because it has beaten two bad teams in Denver and New England and then took out Miami 24-3 this past Sunday. The Dolphins are good when fully healthy but were without star QB Tua Tagovailoa, and Seattle held Miami to just 205 total yards and 13 first downs despite playing without injured linebackers Uchenna Nwosu and Jerome Baker.
Top running back Kenneth Walker missed his second game in a row, and Zach Charbonnet rushed for two TDs. DK Metcalf had four catches for 104 yards and a 71-yard touchdown. It was his seventh receiving TD of at least 50 yards since 2019 (third most in NFL over that span) and second game in a row with at least 100 yards and a TD, tying the longest such streak in franchise history. Mike Macdonald is the first Seattle head coach to ever start 3-0 with the team. The club has started 4-0 just twice all-time (2013, 2020). The Seahawks are 8-3 ATS in their past 11 vs. the NFC.
Detroit Lions
Detroit improved to 14-6 since the start of the 2023 regular season (tied for the best mark in the NFL) with a 20-13 win in Arizona on Sunday. David Montgomery had 105 rushing yards and a rushing score, his sixth straight game with a rush TD, tied for the second-longest streak in team history. End Aidan Hutchinson had another sack and leads the NFL in sacks (6.5), quarterback pressures (25) and quarterback hits (11). He and Pittsburgh’s TJ Watt are the early Defensive Player of the Year favourites.
Centre Frank Ragnow suffered a partial pectoral tear in the win and is week-to-week, while defensive end Marcus Davenport (who plays opposite Hutchinson) is likely to miss the season with a triceps injury. The Lions are 7-1 ATS in prime-time games under coach Dan Campbell.
