Seahawks vs. Colts Point Spread: NFL Week 1 Odds, Prediction

Seattle had a strong 2020 campaign, finishing with a 12-4 record and claiming their division title. However, they were unable to make a deep playoff loss after the Los Angeles Rams knocked them out of contention.

The Colts suffered through a similar fate when they ended with an 11-5 record and a first round exit at the hands of the Buffalo Bills. Indianapolis will also have a new face of the franchise after Philip Rivers decided to hang up the cleats in the offseason. The Seahawks are listed as the early favorites in this game but let’s take a deeper look to see where these teams stand.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis

The Seahawks are just 2-6 ATS in their last eight games played on the road and are 2-3 ATS in their past five matchups overall. When Seattle is a favorite of 2.5 or more, they have been 5-8 ATS. They were able to win 11 of the 14 matchups in which they were favored throughout 2020.

The Colts are 2-3 in their last five ATS matchups overall. They were just 8-8 ATS throughout the entire last season but they were able to win the only game that they had entered as underdogs.

Seattle Seahawks

The Seahawks are going to have their work cut out for them offensively. Despite having a star quarterback in Russell Wilson and a couple of fantastic pass catcher with Tyler Lockett and DK Metcalf, they are going up against one of the best defenses in the league. The Colts were ranked 10th in average yards allowed per game and should match up nicely against Seattle’s pass heavy attack. However, it is always difficult to slow down Wilson when he starts to get into a rhythm. Seattle’s biggest issue on paper would be their defense in this game, though they still have Bobby Wagner, Quandre Diggs and Jamal Adams. This is a unit that gave up 21.6 points per game at home but 25.9 when playing on the road.

Indianapolis Colts

The Colts lost Rivers in the offseason and replaced him with Carson Wentz. However, Wentz suffered a minor foot injury that could keep him out of this contest or have him less than 100%, but it seems like all signs point towards him playing. Wentz is likely not gong to have a huge workload on his shoulder if he does suits up. Second-year running back Jonathan Taylor is primed for a huge season and could tear apart Seattle’s average defensive line.

As we mentioned earlier, this Colts defense is phenomenal. Led by Darius Leonard, Indianapolis could seriously stifle the Seahawks in the passing game and force them to move the ball on the ground. The Colts need to run the ball, control the clock and keep the Seahawks offense on the sideline. If they find themselves in an early hole, it could be problematic given that Wentz is in a new offense, not fully healthy and without T.Y. Hilton.
