A pair of divisional rivals coming off bad beats in Week 3 are set to clash on Sunday afternoon, when the San Francisco 49ers host the Seattle Seahawks as 3-point favourites to win on the NFL odds.

The 49ers saw their first win streak in 11 months snapped with a heartbreaking 30-28 loss to the visiting Green Bay Packers on Sunday Night Football, extending their current straight up losing streak on home turf to five games. The Seahawks arrive at Levi’s Stadium looking for answers after losing outright as betting chalk in each of their past two contests, capped by last weekend’s crushing 30-17 defeat in Minnesota that snapped a four-game road win streak.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis

The betting line for this clash of NFC West rivals has fluctuated since opening with the Rams -3. With the Seahawks commanding 62 per cent of the betting action, the spread briefly reduced to 2.5 points before returning to its opening position. There has also been plenty of movement on the total, which opened at 51.5 and climbed to 52.5 before settling at 52.

The Niners have plenty of work to do to flip the script on a lengthy run of futility against Seattle. The Seahawks have claimed outright victories in 15 of 18 meetings with the 49ers since October 2012, and have gone 6-1 in their past seven visits to San Francisco. That has not translated into consistent success for sports bettors, with the Seahawks going a middling 4-5 against the spread in their past nine overall head-to-head meetings. However, Seattle has won outright in each of its past two dates with the 49ers as road underdogs, and have covered in four straight. With the Seahawks limiting San Francisco to fewer than 15 points per game during that stretch, the UNDER has enjoyed a steady 3-1 run.

Seattle Seahawks

Dominant in a lopsided 28-16 victory in Indianapolis to start the season, the Seahawks have since struggled to contain opposing offences. The Seahawks marched to a 24-9 halftime lead in their Week 2 home date with Tennessee, but have been outscored by a wide 54-23 margin in their six subsequent quarters of action. The Seattle defence had no answer for an aggressive Vikings attack in last weekend’s loss in Minnesota, surrendering 453 total yards, and now ranks dead last in the NFL with 440.3 yards allowed per game.

San Francisco 49ers

Riding high after opening their schedule with solid road victories in Detroit and Philadelphia, the 49ers were forced to play catch-up last week against a Packers squad, and quarterback, with plenty to prove. Aaron Rodgers powered the Pack to an early 17-0 lead, and teamed up with favourite target Davante Adams to orchestrate yet another game-winning drive late in the contest. Injuries have also emerged as a concern in San Francisco. Cornerbacks Josh Norman and K’Waun Williams have both missed time at practice this week with injuries. And if they are unable to go on Sunday, it would certainly complicate the Niners’ efforts to improve on a shaky defence that has allowed 17 total scoring passes over the team’s past seven home dates.
