NHL Betting Odds, Trends for Saturday, Oct. 24: Expect plenty of goals between the Oilers and Maple Leafs
It’s Saturday and that means plenty of action around the NHL, with a 12-game schedule.
Canadian fans will tune in to Oilers vs. Maple Leafs in Edmonton, but there’s several other key matchups to watch out for.
Let’s get into it with some NHL betting tips for Saturday, Oct. 24.

Sharks at Bruins
San Jose is finishing a six-game road trip on Saturday with a visit to Boston. The Sharks are coming off a 6-2 thrashing of the Senators on Thursday, but this could be a letdown spot.
The Bruins have been one of the early surprises of the season with an Atlantic Division-leading 8-2-1 record. They’re also the fifth-highest scoring team in the NHL, averaging 3.8 goals per game.
I expect another multi-goal win for Boston following a 6-3 decision in San Jose on Oct. 14.
Best bet: Bruins -1.5 puckline (+125)
Spread (including overtime and shoot-outs)
Sabres at Capitals
After breaking one of the longest playoff droughts in North American sports last year, it’s been a disappointing start to the season for Buffalo as they sit last place in the competitive Atlantic Division.
The Capitals were expected to be contenders in the Eastern Conference, but it’s been a middling start at 5-4-0.
These teams are each among the lowest scoring in the league so I’m not quite sure why the total is set at 6.5.
Best bet: Game total Under 6.5 goals
Totals (including overtime and shoot-outs)
Golden Knights at Blue Jackets
Columbus hasn’t shown any signs of life this season, so it’s no surprise to see them locked in a four-way tie for second-last in the league standings.
The Golden Knights remain hot after their run to the Stanley Cup Final last season and it really comes down to Vegas and Edmonton for which team wins the Pacific Division this year.
This is a pretty simple pick. I’m going with the better team, although I’ll give the Blue Jackets the benefit of the doubt that they can at least keep things close at home.
Best bet: Golden Knights moneyline (-140)
2-Way (including overtime and shoot-outs)
Hurricanes at Blues
There hasn’t been much of a Stanley Cup hangover for the Carolina Hurricanes, who have posted the NHL’s best record through 12 games.
The same can’t be said for a St. Louis Blues squad that is barely above .500 with a 5-4-1 start to the year.
You can bank on Carolina winning this game handedly. The Hurricanes lead the NHL in goals (47), sit third in goal differential (plus-14) and they’re 6-1-1 on the road.
Best bet: Hurricanes -1.5 puckline (+155)
Spread (including overtime and shoot-outs)
Maple Leafs at Oilers
The best game of the night on Saturday is an all-Canadian tilt as the Oilers host the Maple Leafs.
Edmonton is off to an explosive start under new head coach Mike Babock, posting an 8-1-1 record with an NHL-best .850 win percentage.
Toronto has been inconsistent to start the year, although they generally show up when playing the Oilers, taking four of the last five head-to-heads.
I’ll focus on the total in this game, which is set at 6.5. It’s an easy choice to take the Over. This game features four of the top-five highest scoring players in the league this season, with Connor McDavid averaging an unheard of 3.10 points per game.
Best bet: Game total Over 6.5 (-135)
