The New Orleans Saints were able to pick up a huge Christmas Day victory over the Minnesota Vikings in a game where Alvin Kamara scored six rushing touchdowns. They now face their division rivals Carolina this week to wrap up their regular season. This game may not be the most important game of the week, but playoff seeding is on the line for the Saints as they chase the No. 1 seed in the NFC.

NFL Week 17 Point Spread and Betting Analysis

The Saints are 1-5 against the spread (ATS) in their past six matchups against the Panthers but are looking to improve that number this weekend. It may be unlikely though as division games are normally always close games that come down to the wire. The last matchup between these two teams was settled on the last drive of the game.

The over is 4-0 in their last four matchups. The Saints are a very explosive offence and are coming off of a 52-point game against the Vikings while the Panthers were able to get a lot of success down the field against the Saints in their game earlier in the season.

New Orleans Saints

The Saints were missing a few key starters on the defensive side of the ball heading into their last game and were still able to play good enough to get their team the win. When healthy, this defence is one of the best units in the league with a dominant pass rush that has been helping their secondary out tremendously.

Drew Brees looked like he was back to his normal form after looking rusty against the Kansas City Chiefs in his first game back from the rib injury he suffered. He went 19-of-26 for 311 yards, although he did have a couple of interceptions. If Brees can get himself into a rhythm early, this team will have no problem putting up a ton of points on the board.

Carolina Panthers

The Panthers defence has shown flashes, but they are such a young and inexperienced group that we don’t really know what we are going to get from them on a weekly basis. They have kept this team in some games. They rank 19th in total offence and have struggled without their superstar running back Christian McCaffrey in the lineup.

The good news is that the Panthers moved the ball well against the Saints in the first meeting, piling up 24. The challenge will be for them to control the clock. They lost time of possession 34:14-25:19 in the first meeting as they couldn’t stop the Saints’ ground game. New Orleans averaged 4.8 yards-per-carry in that contest and still only won by three. If the Panthers can cut that down, they might have a shot to spring an upset.
