This year’s Thanksgiving showdown between Washington and the host Dallas Cowboys is missing something – namely, skill players on one side of the football. Washington is down another offensive player with the season-ending leg injury to quarterback Alex Smith, making the team’s one-game lead atop the NFC East even more tenuous. The Cowboys are coming on at the right time, coming into this one having won back-to-back games.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis

With the Cowboys favoured by more than touchdown, this is the biggest spread between the teams in four years – and with good reason. Washington has a minus-1 point differential for the season despite being 6-4, and have now lost their franchise quarterback for the stretch run after he broke two bones in his leg in Sunday’s 23-21 loss to Houston. But bettors beware: The underdog is an unbelievable 31-10 ATS in the past 41 meetings between the teams.

The total for this one is a rock-bottom 40.5 – and with both teams trending heavily toward the under, it still might not be low enough. Washington has converted the under in five of its past six road games, and is 10-4 to the under in its previous 14 games overall. Dallas has gone below the number in each of its past nine games following a straight-up win, and is a sizzling 8-2 to the under in its past 10 games against NFC opponents.

Washington Redskins

Washington has won just three of the past nine meetings between the teams while scoring 20 or fewer points six times over that span. And things don’t get any easier with the injury to Smith, who joins several starting offensive linemen on the sidelines. Colt McCoy will likely take over as the starter while Mark Sanchez was signed Monday to serve as the backup. Dallas is allowing an opposing quarterback rating of 100.6 but has given up just 13 passing scores.

Dallas Cowboys

The Cowboys will go as far as sensational running back Ezekiel Elliott will carry them – and if he’s as effective as he has been the past two games, they’ll have no trouble extending their win streak. Elliott racked up 273 rushing yards and two touchdowns in wins over and Philadelphia and Atlanta, while adding 13 receptions for 115 yards and a score through the air. Washington is allowing a league-average 4.3 yards per carry but has given up just seven rushing TDs.
