The 8-3 Baltimore Ravens and 5-5-1 Pittsburgh Steelers are drifting in opposite directions ahead of their first meeting this season. Two defensive-dominated wins have put Baltimore in first place in the conference while Pittsburgh is winless in their last three outings.

Starting this Sunday, both clubs are entering a challenging back third of their schedule. Every opponent on Baltimore’s schedule has at least a .500 record and Pittsburgh has one opponent under .500 left on their schedule. Plus, it’s Steelers–Ravens to close out the season in Week 18.

Kickoff at Heinz Field goes at 4:25 p.m. EST. Baltimore is a 4.5-point favourite to win on the NFL odds, with a on the the total sitting at 44.0.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis

Covering the spread hasn’t been easy for Pittsburgh lately. They’re 4-7 ATS on the year but just 1-5 at home and 0-4-1 in their last five hosting Baltimore. The Steelers are 6-3 straight up in their last nine against the Ravens, which is encouraging for a slumping Pittsburgh squad.

Injuries are plaguing each team right now too. Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, cornerback Joe Haden, and linebacker Robert Spillane all missed practice for Pittsburgh Wednesday. Baltimore’s injury list is much longer with starters defensive tackle Calais Campbell, linebacker Patrick Queen, and cornerback Jimmy Smith all listed as limited participants at practice.

Baltimore Ravens

Defence is now winning Baltimore games, as three straight weeks they’ve endured offensive struggles. Last Sunday night Lamar Jackson tossed four interceptions but Baltimore held Cleveland to 262 yards of offence in a 16-10 win. The week before saw the Ravens squeak out a 16-13 win in Chicago without Jackson. In both wins, Baltimore held the ball for over 37 minutes.

Tight end Mark Andrews and receiver Marquise Brown each recorded their 60th catches of the season last week. Andrews sits second among all tight ends in catches, and with 761 yards is nine behind Brown for the team lead. Despite missing Week 11 to illness, Jackson is ninth in the entire NFL in rushing with 707 yards as a quarterback.

Pittsburgh Steelers

Roethlisberger’s up and down season hit a low point in a 41-10 loss last weekend at Cincinnati. The veteran pivot threw an ugly pick-six, and the 10-point outing dropped Pittsburgh to a bottom-10 offence in scoring.

And unlike a season ago, the Steelers aren’t elite on defence, so a .500 record is the result. Pittsburgh’s 25th in yards allowed and that includes almost 200 rushing yards against in each of the past three weeks. Stars Minkah Fitzpatrick, T.J. Watt, and Cameron Heyward have all been pulling their weight (Watt’s second in sacks with 12.5) but it hasn’t translated to team success.

Pittsburgh now sits 11th in a cluttered AFC playoff race, making every game a big one.
