Ravens vs. Chiefs Point Spread: NFL Predictions, Week 3 Odds
The Baltimore Ravens have taken the league by storm through the first two weeks of the 2019 NFL season. After back-to-back wins over the Miami Dolphins and Arizona Cardinals, Baltimore will finally meet its match in Week 3. The Ravens, at 2-0, will travel to face a Kansas City Chiefs side that has also opened the year with consecutive victories. While both teams have the potential to compete for division titles and more, the focus for this contest will be on the quarterbacks.
Lamar Jackson has thrown for 596 yards and seven touchdowns with an additional 126 rushing yards through two wins. Meanwhile, Patrick Mahomes has thrown for 821 yards and seven touchdowns while opting against using his legs all that much early on since he really hasn’t needed to. Will Mahomes continue to shine and lead Kansas City to a 3-0 start or will it be Jackson and Baltimore making a statement as a road underdog?
NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis
The Ravens have actually done a pretty good job covering on the road over the past couple of seasons. Baltimore is 10-4-1 against the spread in its last 15 games as the visiting team. The Ravens went 8-8 straight up in games that weren’t played in their home stadium over the previous two seasons.
Meanwhile, the Chiefs home splits have been nearly the opposite of Baltimore’s road splits over the past couple of years. Kansas City went 9-1 straight up over its last 10 home games, but went just 6-4 ATS in those contests. After back-to-back road wins by an average of 16.0 points, it will be interesting to see if the Chiefs can keep it up at home as a 6.5-point favorite.
Baltimore Ravens
After watching the Jacksonville Jaguars and Oakland Raiders get torched by Mahomes, the Ravens defense is hoping it can figure out exactly what needs to be done to keep the reigning league MVP in check. Baltimore has held its first two opponents to an average of 13.5 points per game. However, it’s hard to put too much stock in to wins over the Dolphins and Cardinals, which are a combined 0-3-1 heading into Week 3.
What we do know about the Ravens is that Jackson is for real. The second-year quarterback has shown off his incredible arm strength with some new weapons. He has also forced opposing defenses to respect the fact that he can still make plays with his legs. While Baltimore might very well have the firepower to keep up with the Chiefs, this will undoubtedly be their toughest matchup so far this season.
Kansas City Chiefs
Mahomes isn’t about to let Jackson walk in to his home field, in front of his home fans, and outplay him in the biggest 1:00 PM ET game on the slate for this week. Even without Tyreek Hill in the lineup, Mahomes went off for 443 yards and four touchdowns in last week’s win over the Raiders. Mahomes has a ton of talented weapons around him at the skill positions. All he needs to do is make sure he gets them the football.
Meanwhile, the Kansas City defense remains a work in progress heading into Week 3. While there have been bright spots, the Chiefs don’t have the skill set to completely shut down Jackson and company. Ultimately, this game will come down to which quarterback puts up the better numbers and scores touchdowns in the red zone (instead of field goals).
