Rams vs. Packers Point Spread: NFL Divisional Playoffs Odds, Prediction
The Rams are looking to make the NFC title game for the second time in three years, while the Packers look to get back for a second straight season. Green Bay is favoured by a touchdown on the NFL odds with a total of 46.
NFL Playoffs Point Spread and Betting Analysis
The Rams tend to get spoiled by the southern California climate, but it hurts them when they head north. L.A. has traditionally struggled in Green Bay, missing the over in five of their last six games at Lambeau Field, as well as missing it in 12 games this season. The Rams were 10-7 ATS this year, covering five times at home and five times on the road.
Green Bay, on the other hand, loves Lambeau in January. It’s cold and miserable weather conditions for visiting teams, but the Packers thrive off the atmosphere, which is part of the reason they have gone 7-0 in their last seven January games and 5-0 in their last five playoff games. Green Bay covered more times than they didn’t this season, going 10-6 ATS, covering five times at home and five times on the road.
Los Angeles Rams
After a wild card upset over divisional rival Seattle, the Rams are coming into this game with more questions than answers. With the inconsistent play of quarterback Jared Goff and his thumb injury, L.A. elected to give John Wolford his second career start over Goff. After Wolford went down with a neck injury early in the game, Goff was forced into action, throwing for 155 yards and a touchdown. Goff has now passed for one or less touchdowns in six of his last eight games.
With Goff’s thumb injury, he’ll likely be limited in his throwing ability, which puts more responsibility on rookie running back Cam Akers. Last week in Seattle, Akers rushed for 131 yards and a touchdown, but he should see tougher defensive coverage from a Green Bay team that knows L.A. will need to run the ball. If the Rams pull off a second straight upset it will come down to their defence. Aaron Donald is the best defensive tackle in the league, but after suffering a rib injury against the Seahawks, it’s unclear how effective he can be. Even with a banged up Donald, L.A. still has one of the best secondaries in the NFL. Jalen Ramsey is always a threat to pick up turnovers, while safeties John Johnson and Jordan Fuller are among the best tandems in the league.
Green Bay Packers
The Packers crushed a completely outmatched Bears team 35-16, last week, and Aaron Rodgers is looking to continue his MVP caliber season against the Rams. Rodgers threw for 240 yards and four touchdowns against Chicago and now has at least three touchdown passes in six of his last seven games. In possibly the best season of his career, Rodgers threw for a league-high 48 touchdowns with just five interceptions, creating a dynamic QB-WR combo with Davante Adams. Adams led the league with 18 receiving touchdowns and has been running through single coverage with ease.
Rodgers overshadows Green Bay’s ground game, but running back Aaron Jones is a big reason why the Packers offence has flourished, this season. Jones finished the regular season with 1,104 rushing yards and nine touchdowns and ran for 42 yards and a touchdown against the Bears in the wild card game. Defensively, Adrian Amos led Green Bay in the regular season with 83 tackles, while Za’Darius Smith had 12.5 sacks and Darnell Savage had four interceptions.
