Monday Night Football Point Spread and Betting

Detroit hosts a Monday Night Football game for the first time since 2018, and it’s the third time the Lions have faced the Raiders on Monday Night Football, with the team also hosting them in 1990 and 1984. When a club show signs of becoming a serious Super Bowl contender, the league will schedule it for Monday nights and the Lions finally are one – but still the lone NFC team yet to play in the big game. They haven’t won the NFC North since 1993, the longest drought in the conference, but are heavy -425 favourites to do so.

Las Vegas regressed in Year 1 under Coach Josh McDaniels in 2022 and things aren’t much better this year. Were the Raiders a normal franchise, McDaniels would be on a very hot seat, but owner Mark Davis is one of the more frugal owners in the league.

The Raiders lead the all-time series 7-6 and won the last meeting in 2019 in Oakland.

Las Vegas Raiders

Las Vegas’ two-game winning streak was snapped Sunday in a 30-12 upset loss to a Chicago team giving a Division II undrafted free agent his first NFL start at quarterback. The Raiders were without starter Jimmy Garoppolo and gave 38-year-old career backup Brian Hoyer the start. He threw for just 129 yards with two picks before being replaced by fourth-round rookie Aidan O’Connell. Not clear yet if Jimmy G will be back for this week (seems likely) or which QB will start if not. Hoyer has now lost 13 straight NFL starts, dating to 2016. Pro Bowl receiver Davante Adams complained about not being targeted enough entering Sunday and got 12 targets, catching seven for 57 yards but no TDs. Reigning NFL rushing champion Josh Jacobs was held to 35 yards rushing and  has yet to top 77 yards on the ground in a game this season. The Raiders offence was 1-for-8 in third-down situations and lost the time of possession battle by more than seven minutes.

Detroit Lions

The Lions are a good team but had beaten some questionable opponents other than Kansas City in Week 1 when the Chiefs were missing two of their best players due to injury. Detroit got a major wake-up call on Sunday when it lost 38-6 at a very good Baltimore team. Coach Dan Campbell took the blame for not getting his team ready. The defence allowed touchdowns on the Ravens’ first four drives, and the offence didn’t get a first down until it was already 28-0. Baltimore finished with 503 yards of total offense and averaged 9.1 yards per play. Lions No. 1 running back David Montgomery was out injured, but no excuse. Rookie Jahmyr Gibbs carried the load with Montgomery out and totaled 126 yards from scrimmage with his first TD. Detroit had a rare opportunity to start the season 6-1 or better for the first time since 1956.
