Raiders vs. Jaguars Point Spread: NFL Week 9 Odds, Prediction

The Raiders are coming off their ugliest performance of the season, getting shut out 24-0 at New Orleans last week. The Jaguars made the fly of shame back over to the United States after falling 21-17 to Denver Sunday morning in London.

Jacksonville’s now dropped five straight and can almost wave the playoffs goodbye. Las Vegas sits in the bottom of the AFC West, and still has to play their entire division again so post-season odds are not in their favour either.

Kickoff at TIAA Bank Field goes at 1 p.m. EST and oddsmakers have made the Raiders 1.5-point favourites on the road with the total at 48 on the NFL odds.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis

All four of Jacksonville’s home games this season have finished under the total. This includes their London game last weekend, but prior to that, the Jaguars’ three home games were averaging a combined 28 points per game, and neither them or their opponent ever cracked 24 points.

The Jaguars have had an equally rough start against the spread, covering in two of eight appearances this season and losing ATS in five straight. The good news is Jacksonville is actually 6-2 ATS in their last eight versus the Raiders, and Las Vegas has only one win in their last six road games overall.

Las Vegas Raiders

It got real ugly for Las Vegas’ offence in Week 8. They produced 183 total yards, 3.3 yards per play, and Josh Jacobs went from three straight 140-yard rushing games to a measly 43 yards on the ground versus New Orleans. Derek Carr passed for 101 yards on 26 attempts, and backup Jarrett Stidham nearly accumulated the same yardage in garbage time in the fourth.

At 2-5, Las Vegas is still a top-12 offence with 23.3 points per game, but a team with Jacobs at running back and Davante Adams and Hunter Renfrow at receiver has no business getting shut out. Tight end Darren Waller is likely to return this week from a hamstring injury too, which should help out the Raiders offence.

Jacksonville Jaguars

The breakout of Travis Etienne Jr. is the glass half-full perspective in Jacksonville. The second-year back rushed the ball 24 times for 156 yards and a touchdown in London, which makes moving on from running back James Robinson (traded to the Jets) easy to live with. The glass half-empty mindset is the Jaguars are 2-6 and Trevor Lawrence threw for just 133 yards against Denver.

The Jaguars are ninth in the NFL with 363 yards per game, and 10th in the NFL with 19.8 points allowed per game. Giveaways are part of why their record doesn’t reflect these team statistics, but when it boils down to it, Lawrence needs to take that step as a first-overall pick.
