Raiders vs. Chargers Point Spread: NFL Predictions, Week 16 Odds
The Raiders saw their playoff hopes dashed thanks to a four-game losing skid – and they’re just 1-5 on the road as they head to Dignity Health Sports Park for a Sunday encounter with a Chargers team that has been better than its 5-9 record.
NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis
The Chargers are six-point favourites here, and would almost certainly be bigger faves were it not for their ugly W-L record. Los Angeles has traditionally been a terrific bounce-back team, having gone 10-2 ATS in its previous 12 games following a double-digit home loss. But the Chargers have just one cover over their previous five games, while the underdog has converted the cover in 16 of the previous 21 head-to-head meetings.
The total for Sunday’s game has taken a slight dip from 47 down to 45.5, and there will likely be significant action on the Under even with the downward movement. The Raiders have gone an incredible 20-6 to the Under in their last 26 games against divisional opponents, and they’re 4-1 to the Under in their previous five vs. the AFC. The Under is 5-1 in the Chargers’ last six home games, though Los Angeles is 4-1 O/U in its past five overall
Oakland Raiders
So much for a fond farewell. Quarterback Derek Carr was booed off the field at the conclusion of last week’s 20-16 loss to Jacksonville in the Raiders’ final home game before its move to Las Vegas next season. It has been an up-and-down season for the Oakland quarterback; he has racked up nearly 3,400 yards with 19 touchdowns and eight interceptions but has a dismal 5:4 TD:INT ratio over his previous five games, with Oakland going 1-4 in that span.
Los Angeles Chargers
Last week’s 39-10 drubbing at the hands of the Minnesota Vikings aside, the Chargers have earned the title of most hard-luck team in the league; their other eight losses have all come by seven points or fewer, and they’re the only team in the NFL with a losing record and a positive point margin (+9). And Philip Rivers has been a major factor in the teams’ bevy of close losses; he has a 60.5-percent completion rate with six TDs and eight INTs in the fourth quarter.
