Patriots vs. Seahawks Point Spread: NFL Week 2 Odds, Prediction

The Seahawks are four-point favourites on the NFL odds with the total opening at 45.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis

Russell Wilson hasn’t had much trouble against Bill Belichick in the past, throwing for 888 yards and eight TDs with only one interception in three career games. Oh, but that one interception? It clinched the Super Bowl for the Pats in 2015. Ouch.

The Patriots 21-11 Week 1 home win against the Miami Dolphins was well below the game’s total, while the Seahawks 38-25 road win in Atlanta was well above the total. Over the off season the Patriots defense lost Jamie Collins, Danny Shelton and Kyle Van Noy to free agency, while Don’t’a Hightower and Patrick Chung opted out of the season. On the other side of the field the Seahawks are still trying to plug the hole left after losing Jadeveon Clowney to free agency. This early in the season both of these defenses should be easily targeted, making the reasonable total of 45 attainable to hit.

New England Patriots

The Patriots defense had Miami’s number in Week 1, but it was mainly due to New England’s secondary picking off Ryan Fitzpatrick three times. Adrian Phillips, Stephon Gilmore and J.C. Jackson all had interceptions, while Derek Rivers picked up the Pats’ lone sack.

With a new quarterback who is as strong on his feet as Cam Newton, Belichick elected for a run-heavy offense in Week 1. Newton rushed for 75 yards and two touchdowns while throwing for 155 yards on 15-for-19 passing. Sony Michel also added a rushing touchdown as 217 of the Patriots’ 357 yards came from the ground. The over is 5-0 in the Patriots’ last five meetings with Seattle.

Seattle Seahawks

In Week 1 against the Atlanta Falcons it was Russell Wilson’s offense all the way. Wilson hit nine different receivers in the game, going 31-for-35 in the air for 322 yards and four TDs and a team-high 29 rushing yards.

Chris Carson had six receptions for 45 yards and two TDs, while Greg Olsen and D.K. Metcalf each had a TD and Carlos Hyde rushed for 23 yards and a TD. Quandre Diggs picked up one interception and Jamal Adams recorded a game-high eight tackles. The Seahawks are 4-1 ATS in their last five games after allowing less than 90 rushing yards in their previous game.
