Patriots vs. Chargers Point Spread: NFL Week 13 Odds, Prediction

While the Patriots look to keep their flickering playoff hopes alive despite a dangerously deficient passing game led by Cam Newton, the Chargers look to ride the sensational arm of rookie quarterback Justin Herbert to a respectable finish to their season.

NFL Week 13 Point Spread and Betting Analysis

Oddsmakers have this one as a virtual dead heat – and bettors aren’t much more decisive at the moment, with a 51-percent majority siding with the host Chargers. The Patriots have covered in each of the last five meetings between the teams, but are just 1-4 ATS in their last five road contests overall. The Chargers, meanwhile, have gone five consecutive games without a successful cover and are only 3-8 ATS in their past 11 home games.

The total for Sunday’s tilt is set at 47, with roughly two thirds of Sports Interaction bettors leaning toward the Over. The Chargers have finished above the total in seven of their last eight games, with all seven of those Overs producing in excess of 50 points. New England has been trending in the opposite direction: Six of the Patriots’ previous eight games have come in below the total, with four of those games seeing fewer than 40 points scored.

New England Patriots

We all knew the Patriots would take on a vastly different complexion once Tom Brady agreed to join the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. But nobody could have expected New England to enter its 12th game of the season with a total of six touchdown passes. Newton has added plenty of punch to the rushing game with 387 yards and nine touchdowns on the ground, but is averaging fewer than 200 passing yards per game and has thrown just four TD passes.

Los Angeles Chargers

The Chargers are in a much better position from a quarterback standpoint thanks to the exploits of their sensational rookie signal caller. Herbert has thrown for more than 3,000 yards with 23 touchdowns over the first 10 games of his NFL career, injecting some life into the Los Angeles offence. He has also shown a little rushing ability in his brief professional tenure, recording 185 yards and three scores on the ground so far.
