Panthers vs. Patriots Spread: NFL Week 4 Odds, Prediction
Two teams with win-loss records that don’t begin to tell the full story meet on Sunday at Gillette Stadium when the Panthers hope to solve their offensive woes and the Patriots aim to keep an opponent under 30 points. Let’s take a closer look at this matchup and the Sports Interaction odds for this game.
New England Patriots vs. Carolina Panthers
Point Spread: Patriots -8.5
Date: Sunday, Oct. 1, 1:00 PM ET
Location: Gillette Stadium – Foxborough, Massachusetts
Point Spread and Betting Analysis
Carolina’s woeful attack has been a windfall for total bettors. The under is 5-1-1 in the Panthers’ last seven regular season games including Week 1 and Week 2 of this season.
The Patriots meanwhile are 0-2 against the spread at home after failing to cover as double-digit chalk last week against the visiting Houston Texans. The over is 7-0 in New England’s last seven games.
More than 80 percent of Sports Interaction bettors expect the Patriots to cover the 8.5-point spread and 90 percent are betting the game to go over the 49-point over/under line.

Carolina Panthers
It’s been three games and Panthers fans are officially worried about their starting quarterback. Cam Newton owns fourth worst QB rating for qualified players at 69.7 and he’s been sacked 10 times and intercepted four times this season. The Panthers are averaging just 15 points and less than 280 offensive yards per game so far this year.
Newton, the league MVP in 2015, had offseason surgery on his throwing shoulder and played only a few snaps in the preseason. The Panthers hope he can shake the rust off before facing off against Tom Brady and the Pats on Sunday.
New England Patriots
It’s hard to believe but the New England Patriots are the NFL’s worst defence after the first three weeks of the season. The Pats are giving up a league-worst 31.7 points and 461 yards per contest. Opponents are averaging a league-high 7.1 yards per play against New England.
Brady and the offence are doing their part by finding the end zone early and often. The combination of the underwhelming defence and the continually efficient offence has led to New England playing over the total in each of its three games.
