J.J. Watt‘s Texans are a winner for HBO’s Hard Knocks, but will the cameras hurt the team in the long run?
The Houston Texans have been selected as this season’s team to be featured in HBO’s documentary series Hard Knocks, to the pleasure of possibly every NFL football fan on the planet.

What’s not to like? J.J. Watt going beast mode in the gym and seeing how the team may use him on offence this year will be fantastic. The No. 1 quarterback battle between Ryan Mallett and Brian Hoyer could go down to the wire. Jadeveon Clowney’s comeback from knee surgery is a major story and even Arian Foster’s an interesting character although he’s an introvert.
But will the distraction of having a camera crew watching their every move be too much for the Texans to handle? The NFL has developed a selection stipulation for the show that states that the featured team must have a new head coach and have made the playoffs in the last two seasons.
History of Hard Knocks
That means we’re going to see head coach Bill O’Brien dodging cameras behind the scenes at the very least. You can probably count on a couple of run-ins as well.
The Titans will be up against some interesting trends following the series too. In nine seasons of Hard Knocks, only two teams featured went on to win a playoff game.
The Titans are currently sitting at +5000 to win Super Bowl 50.
