NFL Week 17 Predictions: Best Picks Against the Spread
Here’s a quick look at all the Week 17 matchups with Sports Interaction”s NFL Week 17 odds.
New York Jets at Buffalo Bills
The Jets have nothing to play for other than potentially better draft positioning. Might it just be one year and done in Jets green for running back Le’Veon Bell? The Jets are expected to try and trade him. Buffalo is in the playoffs as a Wild-Card team and locked into the No. 5 seed in the AFC, so the Bills likely will rest some starters here. They won Week 1 at the Jets, 17-16. New York led 16-0 late in the third quarter. Then-Jets kicker Kaare Vedvik (no longer with team) missed an extra point and a 45-yard field goal try.
Point spread: Pick’em
Pick ATS: NY Jets
Cleveland Browns at Cincinnati Bengals
Nothing to see here. Few teams disappointed more this year than the over-hyped Cleveland Browns and it could lead to an off-season of change, including Coach Freddie Kitchens and star wideout Odell Beckham Jr. The Bengals will pick No. 1 in the 2020 NFL Draft and are expected to select LSU QB Joe Burrow, the Heisman Trophy winner. Cleveland beat Cincinnati 27-19 in Week 14.
Point spread: Browns -3
Pick ATS: Cincinnati
Washington Redskins at Dallas Cowboys
Washington was the first team to fire its head coach this season. Could owner Dan Snyder be looking at Urban Meyer to take over? It’s believed that Cowboys owner Jerry Jones will fire Coach Jason Garrett after the season barring a run to the Super Bowl. Jones also reportedly has eyes for Meyer.

Dallas flopped in Week 16 in losing at Philadelphia and now must win this game and have the Eagles lose at the Giants or the Cowboys miss the playoffs and Garrett is probably fired Sunday night. Dallas beat Washington 31-21 in Week 2 behind three TD passes from Dak Prescott.
Point spread: Cowboys -11.5
Pick ATS: Washington
Green Bay Packers at Detroit Lions
Short week for Green Bay as the Packers were at Minnesota on Monday. A win there and the Packers are NFC North champions. They are in the playoffs regardless. Detroit has had a disastrous season and is on an eight-game losing streak but apparently ownership will give Matt Patricia one more season. The Lions lost in Green Bay in Week 6, 23-22. Mason Crosby hit a 23-yard field goal as time expired.
Point spread: Packers -10 (may change depending on Monday)
Pick ATS: Detroit
Los Angeles Chargers at Kansas City Chiefs
Disappointing Chargers are playing out the string and this could be the last game in a Chargers uniform (or any other team’s, for that matter) for long-time starting QB Philip Rivers. The 38-year-old has really struggled at times this year. The Chiefs are in the playoffs again as AFC West champions and have an outside shot at earning the conference’s No. 2 seed. They beat the Chargers Week 11 in Mexico City 24-17, picking off Rivers four times.
Point spread: Chiefs -7
Pick ATS: Kansas City
Chicago Bears at Minnesota Vikings
Short week for Minnesota, which hosted Green Bay on Monday. The Vikings are in the playoffs regardless but whether that’s as NFC North champions or a Wild-Card team remains to be seen. The Bears won the division last year but will miss the 2019 post-season because their offence has regressed. Their defence dominated the Vikings in a 16-6 Week 4 victory.
Point spread: Vikings -7 (may change depending on Monday)
Pick ATS: Minnesota
Miami Dolphins at New England Patriots
Miami is playing out the string and likely to draft a quarterback with its high first-round pick in 2020. New England is the AFC East champion again after a 24-17 win over Buffalo last Saturday and would earn a first-round playoff bye as the No. 2 seed with a victory or a Chiefs home loss to the Chargers. The Patriots blasted the Dolphins 43-0 in Week 2. Miami had 184 yards and turned it over four times.
Point spread: Patriots -16.5
Pick ATS: Miami
Philadelphia Eagles at New York Giants
Likely the last game with the Giants for head coach Pat Shurmur and quarterback Eli Manning, although Manning won’t start this game. Rookie Daniel Jones will again. Shurmur could put Manning out there at some point just so the fans can say goodbye. The Eagles would win the NFC East with a victory after their mini-upset of Dallas in Week 16. Philly beat the Giants 23-17 in overtime in Week 14. New York led 17-3 late in the third quarter.
Point spread: Eagles -4.5
Pick ATS: NY Giants
Atlanta Falcons at Tampa Bay Buccaneers
NFC South rivals playing out the string. Will it be the last game as Bucs quarterback for Jameis Winston? The former No. 1 overall pick’s rookie contract is up. The Bucs could opt to put the franchise tag on him or let the inconsistent Winston just walk away. He showed his downside last Saturday with four more interceptions, including his sixth this season returned for a TD, in a loss to Houston.
This probably will be the last game for Falcons coach Dan Quinn as he’s expected to be fired even though Atlanta has played much better of late in winning six of eight. Tampa beat the Falcons 35-22 in Week 12.
Point spread: Bucs -2.5
Pick ATS: Tampa Bay
New Orleans Saints at Carolina Panthers
Panthers QB Cam Newton is out injured but this might be his last game in a Carolina uniform. The team will have a new head coach in 2020. New Orleans is the NFC South champion but still playing for a first-round post-season bye, maybe the conference’s top seed. The Saints beat the Panthers 34-31 in Week 12 on a 33-yard Wil Lutz field goal as time expired.
Point spread: Saints -11
Pick ATS: Carolina
Indianapolis Colts at Jacksonville Jaguars
These AFC South teams are playing out the string. Jacksonville could have a new coach and general manager next season. Indianapolis started this year strong at 5-2 but then largely collapsed. The Colts did beat the Jaguars in Week 11, though, 33-13, thanks to 264 yards rushing.
Point spread: Colts -1
Pick ATS: Indianapolis
Pittsburgh Steelers at Baltimore Ravens
We most likely won’t see many Ravens starters because they have wrapped up the AFC’s top seed in the playoffs. QB Lamar Jackson surely will not be risked; he’s going to win league MVP honours. The Steelers are playing for a Wild-Card spot but must win and have Tennessee lose in Houston. Pittsburgh lost 26-23 in overtime to Baltimore in Week 5. Justin Tucker sent the game to OT with a 48-yard field goal with 10 seconds left and then won it from 46 yards out.
Point spread: TBA (on which Ravens play)
Pick ATS: Pittsburgh
Tennessee Titans at Houston Texans
Houston clinched the AFC South Division for the second year in a row last Saturday with a 23-20 win in Tampa, although the Texans didn’t play well overall. However, with no chance at a first-round bye, it’s likely that Coach Bill O’Brien rests QB Deshaun Watson and other key players on Sunday. The Titans lost at home to New Orleans but would still be the AFC’s final Wild-Card team with a victory in Houston. These teams just played in Week 15 and Houston won in Nashville 24-21.
Point spread: Titans -4.5
Pick ATS: Tennessee
Oakland Raiders at Denver Broncos
The Raiders are 7-8 but could earn a Wild-Card spot with a victory and a handful of other games going their way on Sunday. Quite unlikely. Last game as the “Oakland” Raiders for the Silver & Black ahead of a move to Las Vegas. The Raiders opened the season with a 24-16 win over Denver. Josh Jacobs rushed for two touchdowns – he’s likely to win NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year but might miss a second game in a row with a shoulder injury. Denver is 3-1 since rookie QB Drew Lock took over as starter.
Point spread: Broncos -4
Pick ATS: Denver
Arizona Cardinals at Los Angeles Rams
The Cardinals aren’t very good but showed some promise under rookie quarterback Kyler Murray and first-year head coach Kliff Kingsbury. Murray left Week’s 16 upset of Seattle with a hamstring injury and is in question for this one. The Rams are defending NFC champions but are out of the playoff chase after losing 34-31 at San Francisco last Saturday on the final play of game. L.A. blasted Arizona 34-7 in Week 13. Jared Goff had 424 yards passing and two touchdowns.
Point spread: TBA (on Murray)
Pick ATS: LA Rams
San Francisco 49ers at Seattle Seahawks
Flexed to the prime-time window. Both are in the playoffs. The winner is the NFC West champion and possibly the NFC’s top seed, and the loser a Wild-Card team. Seattle upset the Niners 27-24 in OT in Week 10 when San Francisco was the last team in the league without a loss. Jason Myers hit a 42-yard field goal as time expired in OT. The Niners’ Chase McLaughlin had sent it there on a 47-yard field goal with one second left in regulation.
Point spread: 49ers -3
Pick ATS: San Francisco
