NFL Preview: Jets Look to Clip Ravens’ Wings

Rex Ryan built Baltimore into a defensive force but now the Jets’ coach is looking to beat his old team on Monday Night Football.

Time to deliver
Rex Ryan isn’t exactly shy. He dropped as many F-bombs as he could manage into the whole run of Hard Knocks, drawing the ire of Tony Dungy in the process. In between the swear words he made frequent references to how great the New York Jets are and how this team is going to the Super Bowl. In a league filled with coaches afraid to express an opinion, it’s refreshing to have somebody like Ryan shake things up.

The Jets coach did a great job bringing the franchise to the AFC Championship game in 2009 but now the pressure is on to deliver on his claims of greatness. He faces a tough test on Monday Night Football against the visiting Ravens. TJ Houshmandzadeh joined Baltimore’s already loaded receiving corps, giving Joe Flacco more ways to open up New York’s defense on Monday night.

While I like the Ravens to click this season and make a serious run at the Super Bowl, I don’t think they will come out on top on Monday. NFL betting fans should pay attention to New York’s great mixture of youth and experience, nowhere better demonstrated than the running back tandem of Shonn Greene and LaDainian Tomlinson. These are two talented teams but on Monday Night Football in New Meadowlands Stadium, it will be the Jets that fly the highest. Bet on the New York Jets as -2.0 favorites with Sports Interaction.

Smile for the camera
The T.Ocho show hits New England this week. Cincinnati receivers Chad Ochocinco and Terrell Owens have been given their own regular slot on Versus show The Daily Line. If nothing else this gives me a chance to mention one of its hosts is Jenn Sterger, which means I can link to this moment of magic from Brent Musberger. After a month-long stint on The Daily Line, the T.Ocho show will get its own half-hour weekly slot.

While the two receivers are busy working on their media careers, they would be well advised to take a break and focus on the Patriots instead. New England is rebuilding but remains a tough team to beat. Tom Brady’s car crash adds some drama to the proceedings but I expect all these outside events to be put to one side on Sunday. Look for the Bengals defense to stifle New England in a low-scoring game. Bet on Cincinnati as a +4.0 underdog with Sports Interaction.
