NFL Preview: Dolphins Look For Second Straight Road Win

Miami started the year by winning in Buffalo, a road win against the Vikings would make the Dolphins the envy of the NFL after two weeks.

Big game for Miami’s offense
Miami is not the best team in the NFL but it could be in the best position of any franchise after Sunday. Having recorded a road win over the Bills in week 1, the Dolphins are looking to move to a 2-0 record before playing a single game in Dolphin Stadium.

Miami didn’t exactly explode against the Bills in a 15-10 victory but defensively they proved a stout outfit. In a game with no turnovers, it was the Dolphins who proved more adept at limiting drives. Against Minnesota, a team looking increasingly banged up, a similar performance could secure a victory. A more clinical display from Chad Henne would help. His 21 of 34 performance yielded just 182 passing yards and no touchdowns. Henne needs to get better at stretching the field. His longest effort was 21 yard pass to tight end Anthony Fasano. With questions surrounding the Vikings secondary, the Dolphins quarterback will have chances to test Minnesota in the passing game.

The Vikings, for their part, will have welcomed the long week between games. Having opened the season on Thursday, this team had an extra three days to recover and prepare for the visiting Dolphins. Defensively the Vikings were fine against New Orleans but the offense was a mess. Brett Favre is at the center of the problem but in the absence of Sidney Rice is just as big a factor. I don’t see Minnesota turning it around in the Metrodome this week. Bet on Miami as a +6.0 underdog with Sports Interaction to win on the road for the second straight week.

Quarterback controversy vs. Quarterback crisis
By this stage every NFL betting fan knows how Detroit lost to the Bears on Sunday. It was sickening, gut-wrenching, and just not what Football is about. Unfortunately things don’t look terribly good entering Sunday’s home date with the Eagles. Detroit’s quarterback, Matthew Stafford, is out injured meaning Shaun Hill will lead the Lions against the visiting Eagles.

Philadelphia’s quarterback situation is beginning to prove interesting as well. Michael Vick was confident and reliable in relief for Kevin Kolb, who left the game injured after going a paltry 5 of 10 for 24 yards. Kolb’s first and possibly last chance to save his job comes this Sunday in Detroit. The former Houston stand-out has a cannon arm and plenty of receivers to work with. He’ll need to air it out at Ford Field to silence the doubters. I like Kolb, or whoever starts for Philadelphia, to get the job done. Bet on the Eagles as -5.0 favorites with Sports Interaction.
