NFL Preview: Cowboys Need to Keep Romo Upright
The Dallas Cowboys welcome Chicago to Jerry-World, knowing only a win will do. The Bears meanwhile are playing with house money after a lucky escape against the Lions.
Bears offense clicking
Yes the Lions were robbed against Chicago last Sunday but don’t sleep on this Chicago offense. Against an improving Detroit defense, Jay Cutler went 23 of 35 for 372 yards, 2 touchdowns and an interception. Chicago was less impressive on the ground but running back Matt Forte still totalled over 200 yards from scrimmage due to some excellent receiving work in the backfield. By comparison Dallas was inconsistent against Washington, with Tony Romo going 31 of 47 for 282 yards and a touchdown while the ground game was inept.
This spells bad news for the Cowboys who continue to have significant problems with their offensive line. It’s tragic to look at this Dallas roster. There are so many Pro Bowl level talents in this team yet the offensive line is an Achilles heel in Arlington. Chicago’s defense might not be what it was four years ago but the Redskins are far from stellar and they had plenty of success last Sunday.
The Mike Martz offense is, so far, working in Chicago and I expect another good week from the Bears offense. As a +8.0 underdog with Sports Interaction, Chicago offers plenty of value. Bet on the Bears to beat the Cowboys on the road in week 2.
The return of Mike Williams
Pete Carroll is making believers out of bettors with his revolution in Seattle. The Seahawks dismantled the 49ers in week 1, with a notable contribution from Mike Williams. NFL betting fans may recall Williams as one of a series of busts drafted by Matt Millen in Detroit. Well now he’s enjoying a new lease of life under his old College Football coach. Williams had 4 receptions for 64 yards including a crucial 35 yard catch as the Seahawks took command last Sunday.
Now Pete Carroll must take his show on the road with Denver looking to bounce back from a defeat to Jacksonville in week 1. Defensively the Broncos were lacking, save for a masterful performance by D.J. Williams, with just 1 sack and no turnovers against a so-so Jaguars team. Combine that with an ordinary looking offense and this becomes a winnable game for the Seahawks. Seattle won’t win forever but the unbeaten start to the Pete Carroll era will last at least one more week. Bet on the Seahawks as +3.5 underdogs with Sports Interaction.
