NFL Preview: Chargers Will Rumble Past Chiefs
San Diego and Kansas City do battle in the second Monday Night Football game this weekend. Al Dannity likes the Chargers to win on the road.
Not a sleeper pick
Ever since the NFL split to eight divisions, at least one team has gone from worst to first every year bar 2007. The NFC South was the most common source of such single-season turnarounds, accounting for one in every year except for the aforementioned 2007 season. With New Orleans in good shape, NFL betting fans are looking elsewhere for 2010’s Cinderella story. The hot option in 2010 is Kansas City. The Chiefs are in a division which isn’t terribly strong and is known for its weak passing defense. Seeing as Dwayne Bowe is part of Kansas City’s receiving corps, the Chiefs are the hot pick to become this year’s worst to first story.
I’m not buying it. This Kansas City team isn’t as bad as last year’s edition but the 2009 Chiefs were awful. Being slightly above awful simply won’t do for a playoff contender in the NFL. There are still too many holes in the defense and that offensive line might get Matt Cassel killed.
On the other hand, San Diego enters this game with a new sense of youth and life in the organization. Antonio Cromartie and LaDainian Tomlinson are gone, Vincent Jackson might soon follow, but if anything this team looks in better shape than 2009. Ryan Mathews will liven up the running game while Philip Rivers continues to develop as a premier quarterback in the NFL. Bet on the Chargers as -4.5 favorites with Sports Interaction.
Well-hidden gem
Viewers outside of the South West, Indiana, and Illinois won’t get to see the best of the early games on Sunday. The Colts travel to Houston in an AFC South game which could tell us plenty about the 2010 Texans. After finally recording a winning season last year, Houston is now looking to take the next step and make it to the playoffs.
The Texans have their work cut out for them against the reigning AFC Champions. While Gary Kubiak has brought the Texans forward, this team has still achieved less than it should with such a talented roster. I like the Texans to start off strong, putting a couple of quick scores on the board. Against Indianapolis that won’t be enough. Houston needs to show it can pressure the Colts for a full 60 minutes to get the win. I like the Texans to make a breakthrough this year but I can’t see them winning this game. Bet on the Indianapolis Colts to win as -3.0 favorites with Sports Interaction.
