NFL Point Spreads Week 5: Best Picks Against the Spread

Two more are on the bye this week: Chicago and Tampa Bay. Here’s a quick look at all the Week 5 matchups with Sports Interaction NFL odds. Games Sunday unless noted.

Indianapolis Colts at New England Patriots, Thursday

It’s the Colts’ first visit to New England since the AFC Championship Game following the 2014 season. You might know that game because of a term that didn’t exist beforehand: Deflategate. Pats have won past seven in series including playoffs. Check out Sports Interaction’s complete betting preview of the Colts vs. the Patriots here.

Point spread: Patriots -10.5

Pick ATS: Indianapolis

Tennessee Titans at Buffalo Bills

The Titans are a rather fortunate 3-1 as all three victories were down to the wire and each by just three points. A week after the NFL’s biggest point spread upset in more than 20 years, the Bills again looked like the league’s worst team in a 22-0 loss in Green Bay.

Point spread: Titans -3.5

Pick ATS: Buffalo

Miami Dolphins at Cincinnati Bengals

Couple of surprising 3-1 teams. Miami was perhaps exposed, though, on Sunday as it was blown out at New England. The Bengals had a wild win in Atlanta. They will get back top linebacker Vontaze Burfict as his four-game suspension is over. Here’s our full betting preview of this matchup.

Point spread: Bengals -5.5

Pick ATS: Cincinnati

Baltimore Ravens at Cleveland Browns

The Browns were oh-so-close to their first two-game winning streak since 2014 but blew a late lead in Oakland and lost in overtime. Baltimore got a big win at blood rival Pittsburgh on Sunday night to stay even with the Bengals atop the AFC North.

Point spread: Ravens -2.5

Pick ATS: Cleveland

Green Bay Packers at Detroit Lions

Detroit swept Green Bay last year, but take little from that as Aaron Rodgers missed both games due to injury. The Lions are last in the NFC North at 1-3, but easily could have won two of those that they lost. They fell on a last-second field goal in Dallas on Sunday. The Packers had no trouble dispatching the visiting Bills.

Point spread: Packers -1.5

Pick ATS: Detroit

Jacksonville Jaguars at Kansas City Chiefs

Fascinating matchup between one of the NFL’s most talented defences, especially against the pass, and a Chiefs offence that is lighting the league on fire behind second-year QB Patrick Mahomes. It’s a short week for Kansas City, though, after visiting Denver on Monday night.

Point spread: Chiefs -3.5

Pick ATS: Kansas City

Denver Broncos at New York Jets

A doubly short week for the Broncos as not only did they host the Chiefs on Monday but now have to play in the early window on Sunday, which is 11 a.m. Denver (Mountain) time. The Jets have regressed quite a bit in losing three straight since a surprising Week 1 blowout win in Detroit.

Point spread: Jets -1.5

Pick ATS: NY Jets

Atlanta Falcons at Pittsburgh Steelers

This could be the highest-scoring game of the week as it features two likely future Hall of Fame quarterbacks in Matt Ryan and Ben Roethlisberger and two very questionable defences. First one to 40 wins? It does have the week’s highest total at 56.

Point spread: Steelers -3.5

Pick ATS: Pittsburgh

New York Giants at Carolina Panthers

Carolina enters off its bye week at 2-1, with both wins at home. The team made some news during the bye in signing safety Eric Reid. Notable because Reid was the first player to join Colin Kaepernick in kneeling to protest racial equality and police brutality in 2016. NFL teams had been shunning Reid much like Kaepernick. The Giants are 1-3 and have been held under 20 points in each loss.

Point spread: Panthers -7

Pick ATS: Carolina

Oakland Raiders at Los Angeles Chargers

The Chargers were nearly surprised Sunday by short-handed San Francisco but held on for a 29-27 victory as Philip Rivers had three TD passes. The Raiders got Jon Gruden his first win in his return to coaching as they rallied for an overtime victory vs. Cleveland. Derek Carr threw for 437 yards and four scores.

Point spread: Chargers -5.5

Pick ATS: LA Chargers

Minnesota Vikings at Philadelphia Eagles

The marquee matchup of Week 5 – even though the Vikings are 1-2-1 — as it’s a rematch of last season’s NFC title game that the Eagles won easily at home on the way to their first Super Bowl win. Neither starting QB in that game, Case Keenum (with Broncos) or Nick Foles (Philly backup), will/should see the field Sunday.

Point spread: Eagles -3

Pick ATS: Philadelphia

Arizona Cardinals at San Francisco 49ers

The 49ers began life without injured starting quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo on Sunday and lost to the Chargers. Backup C.J. Beathard played reasonably well. Arizona is the only winless team in the league following Sunday’s 20-17 loss to Seattle. Rookie Josh Rosen got his first start at QB for the Cards and threw for 180 yards and a score.

Point spread: 49ers -4

Pick ATS: San Francisco

Los Angeles Rams at Seattle Seahawks

The Rams just keep rolling as Jared Goff had a rare perfect quarterback rating in Thursday night’s 38-31 win over the Vikings. Goff is squarely in the early MVP conversation and that offence is unstoppable. Incidentally, the Rams and Chiefs play in Week 11 in what is shaping up as the game of the year. Seattle won in Arizona on Sunday but lost star safety Earl Thomas to a broken leg.

Point spread:  Rams -7

Pick ATS: LA Rams

Dallas Cowboys at Houston Texans

Sunday night matchup between mediocre Texas teams. They have played only four all-time regular-season games, with Dallas leading 3-1. Neither is likely headed to the playoffs, so state bragging rights will have to suffice in 2018. Read our complete preview of this Sunday Night Football matchup here.

Point spread: Texans -3.5

Pick ATS: Houston

Washington Redskins at New Orleans Saints, Monday

The Redskins are 2-1 and well-rested off their bye week. Ageless running back Adrian Peterson has been a godsend to their injury-ravaged backfield. New Orleans won at the Giants on Sunday and now gets RB Mark Ingram back off suspension.

Point spread: Saints -7

Pick ATS: New Orleans
