This hasn’t been a great season for the Tennessee Titans. With just over a month left in the season, they have backed themselves into a hole losing their last two games against division rivals. It will take a Music City Miracle of a different kind if they hope to make it to the post season. But a good way to start is against the lowly Jets who are playing out the year.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis

The Titans may be a disappointing 5-6 on the season, but they are a very respectable 3-1 at home with wins against New England, Philadelphia and Houston. The Jets have one win in five tries on the road this year. Head-to-head the favourite in the series is 5-0 against the spread in the last five games, and over that time the home team is 4-1.

New York Jets

After starting off the season a respectable 3-3 in the first six games, the Jets have taken a nose dive. They enter this game with the Titans on a five game losing streak and have shown no signs of improvement, especially on offence. During the losing streak they have scored, 17, 10, 6, 10, and 13 points for an average of 11.2 points per game. Overall, the team is ranked 26th in scoring with an average of 20.1 points per game (average).

The team’s running game has been dismal in the losing streak, not being able to reach the 100 yard rushing mark once over that time. This is their longest such streak (five games) since the 2005 season. On the team’s off-season shopping list will be a number one running back (hello Le’Veon Bell) and new members of an offensive line.

As far as who starts at quarterback, that’s a good question. After missing two games with a strained right foot, Sam Darnold is expected to practice this week. If it’s a healthy week, he will start on Sunday. It’s in the Jets best interested to give their franchise pivot all the reps he can handle, gain experience, run the offence.

Whether Head Coach Todd Bowles will be around to see Darnold through his future is in serious doubt. There are reports saying it’s only a matter of time until the Jets show him the door. It could happen during this season, it could happen in the off-season, but either way it appears to be in the making.

Tennessee Titans

The Titans prepare for the Jets on a short week, after falling to the Texans on Monday night football 34-17. So, the season is now for the Titans, although their chances are not good, there is still a chance. With five games remaining on the schedule, the team find themselves three games back of first place Houston in the NFC South. The good news, the next three teams they face, including the Jets each have identical 3-8 records.

Marcus Mariota bounced back well against the Texans after sitting out the previous week with an injury. Mariota completed his first 19 passes on Monday night, and finished the game 22-of-23, for the second-most accurate game in NFL history, but the team still lost by 17 points. Mariota continues to get no protection, as he was sacked six times in the game, and now the Titans have allowed a league worst 39 sacks this season.

Of note, cornerback Malcolm Butler left the game against the Texans in the second quarter with a concussion and did not return. His status for this game is unknown.
