Jets vs. Raiders Point Spread: SNF Week 10 Odds, Prediction
Consideration was given to flex the game out but it will stand. The Jets are -2 on the NFL odds.
Sunday Night Football Point Spread and Betting Analysis
This writer is pretty shocked this wasn’t flexed out of primetime. The Jets are still a draw as they battle to stay playoff-relevant, but the Raiders are an utter mess and fired head coach Josh McDaniels, general manager Dave Ziegler and offensive coordinator Mick Lombardi last week. Not sure why Lombardi was blamed for the offensive issues considering that McDaniels called those plays. Quarterbacks coach Bo Hardegree was promoted to offensive coordinator and to take over offensive play-calling. Linebackers coach Antonio Pierce was named interim head coach.
Without question, the Raiders will be picking a quarterback high in the 2024 draft because the Jimmy Garoppolo experiment was an utter failure, and he most likely will not be back in 2024. Las Vegas might have taken a QB at No. 7 overall this year if one of the top three – Bryce Young, CJ Stroud and Anthony Richardson — had fallen there but none of them did.
New York continues to soldier on with Zach Wilson under centre as Aaron Rodgers tries for a miracle comeback from an Achilles injury late this year.
The Raiders are 26-20-2 all-time vs. the Jets including playoffs. The last meeting was in New Jersey in 2020 and the Silver & Black won 31-28 as Derek Carr threw a 46-yard TD pass to Henry Ruggs III (now out of NFL and in jail) with five seconds left.
New York Jets
The Jets had won three straight games entering Monday night to close Week 9 largely on the backs of their excellent defence. However, that unit can’t cover up every mistake the team makes, and that was on display in the 27-6 home loss to the Chargers as New York held LA to only 191 total yards, but the Jets offence turned it over three times (all fumbles) and the special teams unit allowed an 87-yard punt return for a score, the longest in the league this season. In fact, that punt return and two of those turnovers happened fewer than 10 minutes into the game. QB Zach Wilson was sacked eight times but at least didn’t throw pick. “lt felt like [the offensive tempo] was working,” Coach Robert Saleh said. “We moved across midfield twice, right there moving the football. Just self-inflicted wounds. That’s the frustrating part, we never gave ourselves a chance to get going.” New York’s three total offensive TDs over the last four games have each come on one-play drives. Aaron Rodgers did hint after Monday’s loss that me might return in a “few weeks.” That would still be very surprising.
Las Vegas Raiders
Sometimes, there’s something called an “interim coach boost” in sports and that sure appears to be what the Raiders got Sunday as they played by far their best game of the season under new interim coach Antonio Pierce with a 30-6 destruction of the New York Giants, the first time Vegas topped 21 points this season. Pierce opted to start fourth-round rookie Aidan O’Connell at quarterback, and the former Purdue star was efficient in throwing for 209 yards with no picks. He’ll start again. Josh Jacobs, the 2022 NFL rushing king, was finally used correctly in 2023 as he rushed for 98 yards and two TDs. The players celebrated after almost like winning the Super Bowl as they were so glad to be rid of ex-coach Josh McDaniels. It was the NFL’s largest margin of victory immediately following a midseason coaching change since 2015. The Raiders made history with a Black interim coach, a Black interim general manager in Champ Kelly and a Black female team president in Sandra Douglass Morgan.
