To keep their playoff hopes alive, the Tennessee Titans need to win their fourth straight game over the AFC rival Jacksonville Jaguars on Thursday night to kick off Week 14.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis

So much can change in the NFL from one year to the next. Let’s take the AFC South as proof of that. Last year, the Jacksonville Jaguars won the division at 10-6, surprised the Steelers in Pittsburgh in the divisional round in the playoffs and came oh-so close to knocking off the Patriots in New England in the AFC title game. In 2018, the Jaguars are the AFC’s biggest disappointment at 4-8 and last in the division. They already have changed their offensive coordinator and starting quarterback.

The Tennessee Titans were 9-7 last year, second in the division, and pulled off a stunning wild-card round upset in Kansas City before falling to the Patriots in the divisional round. That success wasn’t good enough to save the job of Coach Mike Mularkey. Under first-year coach Mike Vrabel, the Titans are on the fringes of wild-card contention but their offence is terrible.

Perhaps the least interesting game thus far in the 2018 season was when Tennessee won in Jacksonville 9-6 in Week 3 – nary a touchdown scored. Ryan Succop had three field goals for the Titans, including the winner with 4:06 to go. Total yards: Titans 233, Jaguars 232. Yawn!

Tennessee has won three straight and five of six in the series. The home team is 5-2-1 against the spread (ATS) in the past eight meetings.

Jacksonville Jaguars

The Jaguars are setting offensive football back years as they played ANOTHER game without any touchdowns scored Sunday but won this time, 6-0, over Indianapolis to end the Colts’ five-game winning streak and severely hurt their playoff chances. Jacksonville had lost seven in a row. Indy had been averaging 33 points per game over its past eight and Andrew Luck had thrown at least three TDs in eight straight games, two shy of the league record. That’s the Jacksonville defence from last year. The Jags only had 211 yards as Cody Kessler took over for Blake Bortles as the starting QB. Kessler was 18 of 24 for 150 yards in winning for the first time in nine career starts (other eight with Browns). Jacksonville was without starting running back Leonard Fournette as he served a one-game suspension.

Tennessee Titans

The Titans stopped a two-game skid by rallying past the Jets 26-22 – just one fewer point than Tennessee had scored the previous two games combined. The team came out really flat on a short week and off a big divisional game vs. Houston, trailing 16-0 late into the second quarter. Marcus Mariota hit Corey Davis on the winning 11-yard TD pass with 36 seconds remaining. It was Mariota’s 12th game-winning drive of his career and eighth since the start of the 2017 season (latter tied for most in the NFL in that span). He had just 62 yards passing at the half but finished with 282. Taywan Taylor had three catches for 104 yards; he hadn’t played since getting hurt in Week 9.
