Jaguars vs. Lions Point Spread: NFL Week 13 Odds, Prediction

The Jaguars escaped with a 28-27 win over Baltimore last week to extend their current home win streak to two games, but have posted just one win in 22 road games since December 2019. The Lions are coming off a narrow 28-25 loss to the visiting Buffalo Bills, snapping a three-game losing streak, and have seen the three defeats during their current 1-3 run at home come by a combined margin of just 11 points.

The Jaguars have improved to 1-point favourites since seeing this game open as a pick ‘em on the NFL Week 13 odds. The total has also climbed slightly to 51 since opening at 50, with 59% of the betting action backing the OVER.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis

Sunday afternoon’s matchup at Ford Field marks the first meeting between these squads since 2020. The Lions stormed to a 34-16 road win in that contest, and have now topped the Jaguars in three straight clashes including a 26-19 home victory back in 2016. The Jaguars have averaged just 17 points in their past two head-to-head meetings, powering a 2-0 run for the UNDER. Home teams have won just one of the past four meetings between these squads, with each of those road team victories coming by double-digit margins. While the Jags have struggled on the road, the Lions have endured home woes, winning just two of six dates at Ford Field this season. However, Detroit has generated steady offense on home turf, averaging 31 points per game over their past nine, and have covered in eight of their past 10.

Jacksonville Jaguars

Trevor Lawrence has continued to make steady gains this season despite the Jaguars’ continued struggles to return to respectability. The first overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft connected on three touchdown passes while piling up a season-high 321 passing yards in last weekend’s comeback win over the Ravens. Lawrence has also made steady improvements to his accuracy, completing 76.9% of pass attempts over his past three outings while throwing no picks over that stretch. However, the Jags offensive line has provided little help while allowing their star pivot to be sacked nine times over the past two weeks.

With the status of rusher Travis Etienne Jr. still uncertain as he mends from a foot injury, it could be another busy day for Lawrence, and his favourite downfield target. Christian Kirk has made three scoring passes over the past three weeks. However, Kirk must work on consistency issues after pulling in fewer than half the passes sent his way in two of his past four outings.

Detroit Lions

Few have doubted the Lions’ ability to rack up points. Indeed, the Detroit offence currently ranks eighth in the NFL with 25.0 points scored per game. Now with the Lions defence starting to pick up, this team is starting to see some positive results. The Lions allowed an average of 31.7 points per game while opening their season on a 1-6 run, but have surrendered just 21.3 points per game while winning three of their past four. In addition to lifting them into second place in the NFC North standings, the squad’s newfound stinginess has directly contributed to their current four-game win streak against the spread.

The Detroit defence stood particularly tall in their Thanksgiving Day clash with Buffalo, allowing the Bills to score just one touchdown on three drives into the red zone. Up front, Jared Goff has thrown for multiple touchdowns in two of four outings, but with several members of the Lions offensive line finding their way onto the injury list including center Frank Ragnow, guards Jonah Jackson and Evan Brown, and tackle Penei Sewel, it could be another busy day for rusher Jamaal Williams, who has run for five scores over the past three weeks.
