The Jacksonville Jaguars have put to rest a quarterback controversy that really wasn’t – and now they can focus on getting ready for the 2021 season as they close out their preseason schedule Sunday afternoon in Dallas. No. 1 overall pick Trevor Lawrence will be the starting QB for Week 1, and should see some reps in the Jaguars’ exhibition finale against a Cowboys side that will be resting several starters as they deal with a COVID-19 outbreak.

Jacksonville is a 3.5-point favourite to win on the NFL preseason odds.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis

Don’t get used to hearing this when the games count in the standings, but the Jaguars come into their final preseason contest as comfortable road favourites. That might compel bettors to side even more emphatically with the Cowboys, given that Jacksonville is a dreadful 0-6 straight up and 1-5 against the spread in its previous five preseason games dating back to August 2019. The Cowboys haven’t been much better, going 2-9 SU and 2-8-1 ATS in their past 11 exhibition games.

The total for Sunday’s exhibition showdown is set at 36.5, with the Over and Under at an identical -110. And anyone who has followed the Cowboys in recent preseasons knows that this team is an Under magnet this time of year, riding a 10-game streak during which they haven’t seen a single game exceed 35 total points. The Jaguars have also favoured the Under in recent years, having come up short of the total in seven of their last 11 exhibition games.

Jacksonville Jaguars

Jaguars head coach Urban Meyer doesn’t believe in giving his starters a week off, with two weeks between the final preseason game and the regular season opener Sept. 12 in Houston. Lawrence and the vast majority of starters will see plenty of game action in Dallas – though Travis Etienne won’t be among them after suffering a season-ending foot injury last week. Carlos Hyde will step in as the No. 2 running back behind starter James Robinson.

Dallas Cowboys

Fans hoping to see Dak Prescott play in the Cowboys’ preseason finale probably should have bought tickets to something else. Prescott is being eased back in, after first missing the majority of the 2020 season with a fractured ankle, then being sidelined during training camp with a shoulder injury. A host of other Cowboys players – including standout wide receiver CeeDee Lamb – will miss Saturday’s game after being placed on the COVID/Reserve list.
