Giants vs. Cowboys Point Spread: NFL Week 5 Odds, Prediction

One month into the season, the NFC East is completely up for grabs. Yes, even the 0-4 New York Giants sit a game-and-a-half out of first place. It’s been an ugly showing all around in the lowly division, but the 1-3 Dallas Cowboys are looking to pounce on the G-Men Sunday afternoon.

Dallas is once again expecting 25,000 fans at At&T Stadium, which didn’t matter last week as the Cleveland Browns rushed for over 300 yards in a 49-38 win.

NFL Week 5 Point Spread and Betting Analysis

Dallas currently has the number one offence in the NFL in terms of yardage, but on the flip side the 30th defence. New York’s the total opposite with a top-five defence and 31st offence. So which side(s) prevail? History indicates the Cowboys and the offences, as Dallas have won their last six against New York with the over hitting in 10 of their last 15 meetings.

The Giants have been at the opposite end of the spectrums when it comes to the spread as well, failing to cover in all of their last six games versus Dallas, but going 5-0 ATS in their last five road games.

Oddsmakers like the Cowboys trends, with Dallas currently at -9.5 and the total at 53.5.

New York Giants

It’s both ironic and embarrassing that both the New York Giants and Jets sit in last with exactly 278 yards per game.

Daniel Jones’ sophomore season isn’t going well under centre. Jones is throwing for just 222.5 yards per game and has a ground game producing 76.5 yards a game. It doesn’t help that Jones doesn’t have much to work with, but two touchdowns and five interceptions in a quarter of the NFL season is hard to execuse.

New York’s defence is going to have their hands full Sunday with Dallas, and could be without safeties Jabrill Peppers and Adrian Colbert who are questionable, along with linebacker Oshane Ximines. The Giants rank sixth against the pass, which is key going into Dallas.

Dallas Cowboys

At least entertainment is at an all-time high in Dallas. The Cowboys nearly pulled off another double-digit comeback in Week 4, but fell short after a horrendous job defending the run.

Dak Prescott and Dallas’ offence have been stellar, but a ton of yardage has come while trailing. You can’t dismiss averaging 509.5 yards per game, although you can criticize a league-worst nine giveaways. Ezekiel Elliott has also matched his fumble total from last season, and won’t have his All-Pro left tackle to run behind Sunday as Tyron Smith is done for the year with a neck injury.

On the other side of the ball, Dallas is surrendering a league-worst 36.5 points. If that average increases after Week 5, there will be major problems in Dallas.
