Giants vs. Cowboys Point Spread: NFL Week 2 Odds, Prediction

If New York Giants coach Brian Daboll wanted to ward off the vultures, a 21-6, Week 1 loss at the Washington Commanders didn’t help. Daboll’s Giants will look to avoid their second straight 0-2 start when they travel to face the Cowboys on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. ET.

Dallas is coming off a tough but encouraging 24-20 defeat at the hands of the defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles on opening night.

The Cowboys own the Giants right now. They’ve won eight straight and 15 of the last 16 against New York, which hasn’t won in Dallas since 2016. This is the most lopsided the series has been since the Cowboys won 12 straight from 1974 to 1980.

The Cowboys are 6-point favourites at home with current moneyline odds of -275 on the NFL odds. New York’s moneyline is currently +220. The total is listed at 44.5 points.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis

The Giants failed to cover as a 6-point road dog against the Commanders last week, while the Cowboys covered as an 8-point road dog at Philly.

Both teams played to the under. The Giants and Commanders combined for 27 points, 18.5 below the listed 45.5-point total. Dallas and the Eagles were closer, combining for 44 points to fall 3.5 short of the 47.5-point listed total, despite there being 41 points scored in the first half.

New York Giants

The biggest story this week is the Giants’ decision to stay with veteran Russell Wilson at quarterback over rookie first-round draft pick Jaxson Dart. Wilson was well below average last week, completing just 45.9 per cent (17 for 37) of his passes for 168 yards. He also led an anemic rushing offence with 44 yards.

The Giants scored three points in two trips inside Washington’s five-yard line. New York has been outscored 89-12 in three straight season-opening losses, failing to score a touchdown in each game. That’s the longest season-opening touchdown drought since the 1940-42 Detroit Lions. Yes, you read those dates correctly.

Daboll, who led the Giants to their only winning campaign and playoff appearance in the past eight seasons with a 9-7-1 record in 2022, has gone 9-25 since, including a moribund 3-14 last year. His seat may be the hottest in the league.

Dallas Cowboys

The Cowboys lost last week, but just having Dak Prescott under centre felt like a victory. The veteran quarterback missed more than half the season last year as Dallas fell to 7-10 after three straight 12-5 campaigns that included trips to the playoffs.

Prescott went 21 for 34 for 188 yards while the new running back tandem of Javonte Williams (two TDs) and Miles Sanders combined for 107 rushing yards. However, Sanders had a crucial fumble in the third quarter deep in Philadelphia territory.

The Cowboys’ D, famously missing Micah Parsons after the defensive end was recently traded to the Green Bay Packers, held Saquon Barkley to 60 rushing yards on 18 attempts, but surrendered three touchdowns on the ground – one to Barkley and two to Jalen Hurts.

NFL Prediction: Who Will Win Giants vs. Cowboys?

With Wilson under centre, this feels like the lock of the week. The Cowboys have won eight straight against the Giants in Dallas by an average of more than two touchdowns per game. They had every chance to defeat the defending Super Bowl champs last week. Don’t expect them to falter against the expected NFC East doormats. Look for Dallas to handle New York 28-7.
