Giants vs. Cardinals Point Spread: NFL Week 2 Odds, Prediction
The Cardinals saw their current slide extended with last weekend’s 20-16 loss in Washington, and have now averaged just 15.8 points scored per game during their 0-8 run. The Giants arrive in the desert reeling from Sunday night’s crushing 40-0 loss to the archrival Dallas Cowboys. Overall, New York has now posted just four wins in its past 13 games, and is 1-4 straight up in their past five regular season road dates.
Last weekend’s dismal performance has not dampened the Giants on the NFL Week 2 odds, where they have emerged as 5.5-point favourites after opening as 4-point chalk. The Cardinals lag as a +193 bet to earn their first home win in six dates since last October, while the total has held steady at just 39.5.
NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis
Sunday afternoon’s matchup at State Farm Stadium marks the first meeting between these NFC rivals since 2020, and the Giants’ first trip to the desert since 2017. The Cardinals have owned New York during a four-game win streak with respect to both straight-up results and the spread. Arizona claimed victory by double-digit margins in three of those contests including a 23-0 win when the Giants last came to town six years ago.
With the Giants averaging just 10.5 points per game, the UNDER has paid out in each of their past four clashes with Arizona. However, the Giants have managed to emerge victorious in each of their past two matchups with the Cardinals as road chalk.
New York Giants
The Giants saw their season-opening optimism fizzle with a dismal performance last weekend on Sunday Night Football. Expected to enjoy an edge playing at home in the rain, the Giants largely defeated themselves by committing costly mistakes including a pair of first-quarter turnovers that led to an early 16-0 deficit they were unable to overcome. The loss was particularly tough for a Giants squad that hoped to demonstrate they had closed the gap on the Giants.
It was a particularly long night for quarterback Daniel Jones, who compiled just 104 yards on a meagre 15-for-28 passing while tossing two picks and getting sacked seven times. The continued absence of receiver Wan’Dale Robinson due to injury, and tight end Darren Waller’s ongoing health woes did not help matters. With Robinson out and Waller limited, the Giants tried to use Saquon Barkley more in their passing game. However, Barkley amassed just 12 yards on three catches, and was stripped of the ball on one target, resulting in a Cowboys pick-six. Both Robinson and Waller have missed time at practice this week, joining a growing list that includes offensive tackles Andrew Thomas and Matt Peart, cornerbacks Deonte Banks and Cordale Flott, and kicker Graham Gano.
Arizona Cardinals
Hampered by injury woes of their own, most notably the absence of quarterback Kyler Murray, who remains sidelined by a knee injury, the Cardinals overcame an early 7-0 deficit and carried a 16-10 lead deep into the second half before squandering the advantage with a pair of fumbles that Washington seized on to score 10 points and claim the win.
Making just the third start of his NFL career, quarterback Josh Dobbs compiled just 132 yards and field to toss for a score on 21-for-30 passing while fumbling the ball three times. Rondale Moore’s 33 receiving yards was tops among Cardinals wideouts and James Conner marched for a game-high 62 yards. However, Conner’s status for Sunday is uncertain after being limited at practice this week with a calf injury. A pair of key defenders, LJ Collier and Josh Woods, have also been absent from practice. That should be welcome news to Daniel Jones, whose O-line left him to fend for himself on Sunday night.
