A battle of two undefeated NFC teams is the marquee matchup of the early Sunday afternoon games when the Falcons visit Detroit to play the Lions. Atlanta smoked Green Bay last week on Sunday night but the Lions want to prove they are the new kings of the NFC North.

Point Spread and Betting Analysis
The Falcons opened as 3-point road favourites (-115) on the Sports Interaction NFL odds board. Over bettors love the defending NFC champions. The Over is 9-1-1 in Falcons’ games since their bye last season and 17-3-1 in their last 21 games overall. The Lions, on the other hand, have been a cash cow for Under players with their games finishing below the total in 10 of their last 13 games.
Detroit loves playing at Ford Field where the club has won seven of its last eight games and covered the spread in six of those eight contests. The Falcons are birds that travel well under head coach Dan Quinn. Atlanta is 8-2 ATS in its last 10 away games. Nearly 90 percent of Sports Interaction bettors see this game going over the 50.5-point total and 67 percent think the Falcons will cover the 3-point spread.
If the curse of the Super Bowl loser was a thing, the Falcons haven’t gotten the memo. The trend that saw losing teams from the previous year’s Super Bowl crash and burn in the following season isn’t applying to Atlanta. The Falcons took care of business in Week 1 against Chicago and defeated Aaron Rodgers and the hobbled-by-injuries Packers on Sunday night on NBC. The offense hasn’t missed a beat transitioning to new offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian, but the defense will have to make a big adjustment in the coming weeks.
Pro Bowl outside linebacker Vic Beasley pulled his hamstring Sunday against Green Bay and is expected to miss at least four weeks. He was the league leader in sacks a season ago with 15.5 QB takedowns.
The Lions are proving there’s more than one way to skin a cat. Detroit for many years threw the ball around the lot with quarterback Matthew Stafford racking up passing yards. The Lions thumped the Giants last week with Stafford totaling just 122 yards in the air.
Of course, Detroit was helped by punt returner Dwayne Harris taking one to the house against the Giants and that’s something that’s probably not going to happen every week.
