Eagles vs. Saints Point Spread: NFL Week 3 Odds, Prediction

New Orleans has been the surprise team of the NFL in the first two weeks of the season, blowing out Carolina in Week 1 before embarrassing Dallas with a 44-19 road victory last week. Bad decisions cost the Eagles in a surprise 22-21 home loss against Atlanta last week, which moved Philly to 1-1 on the season.

Philadelphia opened as a three-point favourite to win on the NFL odds, with the total set at 47.5.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis

The Saints’ hot start has wildly flipped this line, with New Orleans sitting as a three-point favourite as of Thursday afternoon. The total also climbed to 49.5 and that could rise even further as 87 per cent of early bettors are taking the Over.

The last three head-to-heads between the teams have been played in Philadelphia, with the Birds taking two of those games. New Orleans won the last meeting 20-10 in Week 17 of the 2022 season, although it was a meaningless game in the standings for both teams.

Philly has to feel like they squandered what should have been an easy home win last week. For the season, they now sit 1-1 straight up, 1-1 against the spread and 1-1 on the Over/Under. The Eagles are still -145 favourites to win the NFC East on the NFL futures board, with their regular season win total set at 10.5.

It’s been a great start to the season for the Saints, who are 2-0 SU, 2-0 ATS and have hit the Over twice. That gives them six wins and six covers in their last seven games, dating back to last season. New Orleans is still a +3000 Super Bowl long shot, but they now look like an attractive option at +160 to win the NFC South.

Philadelphia Eagles

An easy dropped pass by Saquon Barkley that would have ended the game cost the Eagles last week. Barkley finished the game with 21 receiving yards and 95 rushing yards, but it was a costly mistake. Still, Barkley’s looked great in his first two games with Philadelphia, racking up a combined 204 rushing yards and three total TDs. Jalen Hurts went 23-of-30 for 183 yards with one touchdown and one interception in Week 2. Hurts also added 85 rushing yards and another touchdown on the ground.

The big issues for the Eagles right now is the loss of receiver A.J. Brown, who missed last week’s game with a hamstring injury. Brown is expected to be out a couple of weeks, which leaves DeVonta Smith as the No. 1 receiving option. Smith finished with 76 receiving yards and a touchdown last week and he’s coming off back-to-back seasons of 1,000-plus receiving yards. Barkley will also factor heavily onto the offence, so he’s a great option for an anytime touchdown on Sunday.

New Orleans Saints

The Saints have been wildly impressive in two games, putting up an NFL-high 91 total points while leading the league with a plus-62 point differential. Alvin Kamara has been a big reason for that success. Kamara has 198 rushing yards in two games and he leads the NFL with four rushing TDs. He also has 92 receiving yards and one receiving TD. Quarterback Derek Carr has also looked great, rocking a 76.9 completion percentage while throwing for 443 yards, five TDs and one interception over the first two games.

New Orleans has won by at least 25 points in the first two games of the year, so this could set up as a trap game. The Saints are likely not as good of team as the stats say and the Eagles will be hungry to avenge a loss. But, there’s also reason to think the Black and Gold can pull off another win this week. Philadelphia is a bottom-10 team in all major defensive categories, which could be a disaster against an offence as hot as New Orleans. You can at least bank on Kamara carving apart the Eagles and finishing well above 65.5 receiving yards.
