The Eagles will look to take care of their own business as they visit a Washington team that has already been eliminated from playoff contention, but would love nothing more than to end Philadelphia’s shot at a repeat.

Nick Foles leading Philadelphia with Carson Wentz on the sidelines has a familiar feel to Eagles fans – but if either Foles or Wentz is going to get a crack at guiding Philly to a second straight Super Bowl title, they’ll need a win and some help this Sunday.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis

The Eagles’ playoff path is a simple one: beat Washington and hope that the Chicago Bears can defeat the Minnesota Vikings, who presently hold the second NFC wild-card berth. But while Philadelphia has done well to get to this position, it has been a dreadful cover option of late, going just 2-5 ATS in its previous seven games. And Washington is in good position to end the season with a cover, having gone 7-3 ATS in its previous 10 home outings.

The total of 42 is among the lowest of the week, in large part due to Washington’s decimated offence. But the hosts have gone 5-1 O/U in their previous six games against teams above .500, and have converted the over in four straight games following a successful cover. Philadelphia has surpassed the number in 35 of its previous 51 games outside the City of Brotherly Love, and is 14-6 O/U in its past 20 contests against NFC opponents.

Philadelphia Eagles

With Foles having already been named the Week 17 starter, the Eagles will place their playoff aspirations in the hands of the man who led them past the New England Patriots in last year’s Super Bowl. Foles has been sensational over the past two games in relief of Wentz, throwing for 741 yards with four touchdowns and two interceptions. The Eagles can also take heart in the fact that the favourite has covered in each of the past four meetings with Washington.

Washington Redskins

The distraction factor is difficult to quantify in betting circles, but you can bet that Washington will need to refocus following the surprise release of D.J. Swearinger. The veteran safety was cut loose Monday after making critical remarks about the team’s coaching staff. On the field, Washington will need to figure out how to generate more offence after being held to 16 or fewer points in each of its previous four games, including a Week 13 loss to the Eagles.
