Cowboys vs. 49ers Point Spread: NFL Week 8 Odds, Prediction
The Niners opened as 4.5-point favourites to win on the NFL odds, despite the fact they might be without several key offensive guys.
NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis
Cowboys-49ers is a rivalry that many of us grew up on in the 1980s and early 1990s, and they are certainly two of the marquee franchises in the NFL with a combined 16 Super Bowl appearances and 10 championships.
Dallas doesn’t look remotely good enough to win the NFC this season and is +2500 to do so. San Francisco is the defending NFC champion and had been the conference favourite nearly all year but is now a +650 second-favourite behind Detroit (+350) – the team the Niners beat in last season’s NFC title game. If the 49ers can ever get healthy, they still can get back to the Super Bowl but they are lucky to be playing in the very mediocre NFC West.
Including nine playoff games, many of them memorable, the 49ers lead the all-time series 20-19-1 and have won the past three. In Week 5 last year, the Niners were 3.5-point home favourites vs. the Cowboys and won 42-10 behind four touchdown passes from Brock Purdy, three to tight end George Kittle. Dallas QB Dak Prescott had only 153 yards passing and three picks. The over is 9-4 in the past 13 meetings.
Dallas Cowboys
Dallas sits third in the NFC East at 3-3 out of its bye week, which likely came at a good time with the team really banged up on defence led by two-time All-Pro pass-rusher Micah Parsons, who has missed the past two with an ankle injury. He was clearly missed in the team’s final game before the bye, an embarrassing 47-9 home loss to Detroit — the Cowboys’ fourth straight one-sided home loss that followed a 16-game winning streak at AT&T Stadium. Parsons early this week said he’s not sure about playing against the Niners.
Pro Bowl defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence (foot) is on injured reserve and will miss at least two more games as will wide receiver Brandin Cooks (knee) and defensive end Marshawn Kneeland (knee). All-Pro cornerback DaRon Bland could make his season debut against the Niners after having foot surgery in August. The offence isn’t doing its part, either. Dak Prescott is tied for the most red-zone interceptions in the league with two and has only completed nine of 23 passes inside the opponents’ 20. The Cowboys are 12-3 ATS in their past 15 October games.
San Francisco 49ers
The Niners still haven’t won back-to-back games this year and fell to 3-4 with Sunday’s 28-10 home loss to Kansas City in a Super Bowl rematch. Already missing all-world running back and 2023 NFL Offensive Player of the Year Christian McCaffrey this season, the Niners had issues with both Pro Bowl receivers on Sunday. Deebo Samuel tried to play through an illness but couldn’t and has been diagnosed with pneumonia. Not clear if he play Sunday, and McCaffrey will not debut. Brandon Aiyuk, who signed a big extension, this summer, suffered a season-ending knee injury. Perhaps not a huge surprise missing those three that QB Brock Purdy had the worst game of his career with three picks and a rating of 36.7. The Niners are now 0-5 in Purdy’s career when he throws multiple picks. To make matters worse, Pro Bowl tight end George Kittle sprained his foot in the loss and is day-to-day. San Francisco is 3-8 ATS in its past 11 games.
