Commanders vs. Giants Point Spread: NFL Week 13 Odds, Prediction
Ever since the team turned to Taylor Heinicke as their starting quarterback, they’ve lost only one game. They’re winners of six out of their last seven coming into this matchup with their division rivals, the New York Giants.
The Giants have lost three out of their past four games after starting the year off with a 6-1 record. Were they an early season mirage? Let’s take a closer look at what could be a season-defining moment for both teams on Sunday.
NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis
The Commanders are 6-0-1 ATS in their last seven games overall and 4-0 ATS in their previous four games played on the road. As for the total, the under has hit in six out of their last eight games played during the month of December. It has also hit in 19 out of their last 26 games played when going up against a team with a winning overall record on the season.
New York covered six of their last eight games overall, so they are still remaining competitive. However, they are just 1-4 ATS in their previous five matchups against teams from their own division. They’ve failed to cover seven straight games in the month of December.
Washington Commanders
Many had hoped that Carson Wentz would be a serviceable option at quarterback for Washington and provide steady play at a position that’s been a big weakness for years. Instead, it’s been Taylor Heinicke he’s gotten the job done. He’s only lost one out of his first six games with the team since Wentz went down with an injury. It’s been obvious since their quarterback change that the team simply rallies around Heinicke when he’s the starter.
The downside is that they’ve had to scratch and claw for offensive production during the games in that they’ve played talented defenses. The Giants are no pushover on the defensive side of the football this year but they have a weakness against the run. They rank 26th in the NFL, allowing 138.9 rushing yards per game. If the Commanders can run and take the pressure off of Heinecke, they’re probably in line for another win.
New York Giants
The Giants started the year 6-1 but have since dropped three of four. We’ve seen their defense slip from time to time, Saquon Barkley is falling into some inconsistencies and their offense can’t put up many points. Then again, three of their losses have been against talented offenses such as the Dallas Cowboys, Seattle Seahawks, and Detroit Lions.
The Giants are a well-coached football team with talent. The problem is that they still don’t have a strong passing game. Quarterback Daniel Jones has thrown for less than 220 yards in nine of his 11 games and he has just 10 passing touchdowns on the season. He’s cut down on the mistakes but there are very few big plays in the passing game too. Unless they can find a way to stretch the field, defenses will continue to load up and stuff the box to stop Saquon Barkley.
