After a narrow victory over the Houston Texans, the Indianapolis Colts have now won three straight. Now they take a trip to Pittsburgh to face off against the Steelers who have lost their last three games, which comes on the heels of them starting the year 11-0.

NFL Week 16 Point Spread and Betting Analysis

The Colts are just 1-4 against the spread (ATS) in their last five matchups against the Steelers but have a great shot at picking up a big win this week. Pittsburgh is on a losing streak while the Colts are beginning to look like legitimate Super Bowl contenders.

The over has been 5-2 in the past seven games between these two teams but there is reason to believe that this matchup goes under. The Colts have a Top 10 defence in the league heading into this game while the Steelers own a Top 3 defence. Each of these teams could be planning to run the football and grind this game out.

Indianapolis Colts

At the beginning of the season, it seemed as if the Colts weren’t able to find their identity. They have found it now. Their rushing attack has been dominant in recent weeks and it has taken some pressure off of Philip Rivers. This new flow has allowed their attach to march right down the field consistently.

The Colts have won five of six and have scored no less than 26 in any of those games while averaging 31.8 per outing. Not to mention the fact that their defense is ranked seventh in the league. With young talent all over the field such as Darius Leonard and DeForest Buckner, they are going to make things really tough on the Steelers. Pittsburgh is struggling right now, failing to score 20 points in four straight games.

Pittsburgh Steelers

Pittsburgh’s offence over the last three weeks and the Monday night failure against a bottom 10 defence was particularly worrisome. This dip in offensive production has forced their defence to be held out on the field far longer than they are used to and the fatigue has clearly set them back a few steps. The offence continues to shoot themselves in the foot with drops, penalties and turnovers.

Regardless, they are still the second-ranked defense in the league even while missing a few key pieces to that unit like Bud Dupree and Devin Bush. If they want to get back on track and win this game, they are going to have to run the football. It’s not something they’ve been able to do consistently, though, and now they’re up against one of the league’s best defences.
