NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis

With Indianapolis at New York flexed out of the primetime window on Sunday night in Week 11, it has been replaced by Cincinnati at Los Angeles Chargers. And there’s no question Colts-Jets should not have been in that national spot with Indy at 4-6 and New York at 3-7. We’ve seen enough of Aaron Rodgers and that inept Jets offence in primetime already this season.

The only shot either club has of making a playoff run is for a wild-card spot. The Colts are “only” two games back of Houston in the AFC South but were swept in the season series, so really it’s three games. The Jets are five games back in the loss column of AFC East-leading Buffalo and the Bills aren’t even going to lose five more games this regular season most likely.

These franchises have met 76 times overall and one of the biggest reasons why the NFL is where it is now in terms of popularity was the AFL Jets’ 16-7 stunning upset of the NFL’s Baltimore Colts in Super Bowl III led by Joe Namath. That led to the AFL-NFL merger. The Colts lead all-time 44-32 and won the last meeting 45-20 at home in 2021. Jonathan Taylor, still a big part of that Indy offence, rushed for 172 yards and two scores.

Indianapolis Colts

Following a close Week 8 loss in Houston, Colts coach Shane Steichen made the controversial decision to bench quarterback and 2023 No. 4 overall pick Anthony Richardson for veteran Joe Flacco, a former Super Bowl MVP. It hasn’t worked as the Colts have lost back-to-back Flacco starts, and he was responsible for four turnovers in Sunday’s 30-20 home defeat to Buffalo – one of his three picks was returned for a touchdown. Yet Steichen says he’s sticking with Flacco for now. He was without No. 1 wideout Michael Pittman Jr. on Sunday due to injury, but he may return in Week 11. Cornerback Kenny Moore publicly called out the team’s effort following the Bills loss. For some reason, the Colts got away from star tailback Jonathan Taylor on Sunday. He rushed for 107 yards on 16 carries in the first half but had just five carries after the break even though it was a one-score contest until 10:28 remained in the fourth quarter. Indy is 6-2 ATS in its past eight games.

New York Jets

The Jets lost for the sixth time in seven games on Sunday, 31-6 in Arizona, despite essentially coming off a mini-bye week. Anyone who thinks this is a playoff team is deluding themselves, and clearly Aaron Rodgers is no longer a quality starting NFL quarterback at soon-to-be age 41 — and that 3-7 mark is the worst of his career through 10 games. The four-time MVP passed for a season-low 151 yards on 35 attempts and completed on Sunday only one pass that traveled more than 10 yards in the air. His 4.3 yards per attempt was his worst mark in any start with multiple pass attempts since 2019 and fourth lowest of his career. The Jets defence was supposed to be a strength but allowed the Cardinals to score touchdowns on four of their first five drives to never trail. Interim coach Jeff Ulbrich dropped to 1-4 since replacing the fired Robert Saleh. New York is the fourth team in the last 30 seasons with at least seven losses through 10 games despite being favoured in at least seven games. They are 1-6 ATS in their past seven.
