Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs are must-see TV regardless of their opponents. The Detroit Lions are the latest side trying to slow down Mahomes and his assault on NFL record books.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis

The Chiefs are the second largest away favourite on this week’s board. Only the New England Patriots are bigger road chalk. Kansas City is 6.5-point faves at Detroit and the club is 5-1 against the spread in its last six games.

KC is coming off a 33-28 win over AFC North leader Baltimore. The victory improved the Chiefs to a perfect 3-0 straight up and against the spread. They own one of the best point differentials in the NFL at +37, and only the New England Patriots (106) and Baltimore Ravens (110) have scored more points so far this season.

The Lions have collected back-to-back outright wins as underdogs including last weekend’s 27-24 victory over Philadelphia as 4-point road dogs. Detroit could easily be sitting at 3-0 if it weren’t for its Week 1 meltdown against Arizona.

The total for this game sits at 54 after opening at 53.5. Kansas is one of the most popular over bets in the league because of Mahomes’ knack for finding the end zone. The under is 6-0 in Detroit’s last six home games and 8-2 in the club’s last 10 games overall.

The Chiefs are +220 to win the Super Bowl at Sports Interaction. Only the Pats own shorter odds to win the championship at +105.

Kansas City Chiefs

It doesn’t seem to matter what personnel is on the field; Mahomes will get his teammates the ball in space. Star receiver Tyreek Hill hasn’t played since Week 1 because of a collarbone injury, and running backs Damien Williams and LeSean McCoy are both banged up heading into this weekend’s matchup.

Andy Reid is accustomed to his teams starting fast. The Chiefs went 9-1 in their first 10 games last season, and 5-0 in their first five games the year before.

Detroit Lions

The last time the Detroit Lions were unbeaten heading into Week 4 of a season a Kennedy was in the White House. The perpetually tame Lions are showing some bite this year.

It’s difficult to pinpoint the reason for Detroit’s early season success. The squad isn’t elite on either side of the ball and it doesn’t own a crazy turnover margin. Matt Patricia’s defence looked great for the first half against the Cardinals and then benefited from the Chargers self-destructing in Week 2.

Quarterback Matt Stafford has been steady if not spectacular, and has three solid receiving options in Marvin Jones Jr., Kenny Golladay, and Danny Amendola.
