Chargers vs. Raiders Point Spread: NFL Week 2 Odds, Prediction
This one has a rare 10 p.m. ET kickoff. The visitors are -3.5 on the NFL odds with a total of 47 points.
NFL Week 2 Point Spread and Betting
It’s so much better when the NFL does these separate Monday night doubleheader starts than slightly staggering them or as it occasionally does, kicking them both off at the same time. So now Monday in Week 2 is almost like a Sunday afternoon with back-to-back games. Folks on the West Coast so rarely get their own primetime action.
The Chargers and Raiders are alike in one major respect: Both recently went old school in their head coaching hirings to turn franchise fortunes around. Former national championship-winning coach Jim Harbaugh of course was hired by Los Angeles before last season, and Harbaugh led the team to the playoffs directly. He probably will again with the Chargers at -192 currently to get there.
Former national championship-winning and Super Bowl-winning coach Pete Carroll of course was hired by Las Vegas before this season. He became the NFL’s oldest head coach ever at 73 years and 357 days Sunday in his debut. There have only been five coaches to make it passed the age of 70 in NFL history. When Carroll coached his final game with the Seahawks in 2023, he was 72 years and 114 days old, which made him the fourth-oldest person to ever coach in an NFL game.
Los Angeles swept Las Vegas in 2024, winning each by double digits. The Chargers are 6-3 SU & ATS in the past nine overall.
Los Angeles Chargers
The Chargers are on a bit of a mini-bye because they played on Friday in Week 1 in Brazil and upset Kansas City, 27-21, to snap a seven-game losing streak against the team that has lorded over the AFC West for years. Justin Herbert looked like an MVP in completing 25 of 34 for 318 yards and three scores. He also picked up a late first down on a scramble and didn’t turn the ball over. It was Herbert’s 14th career game with at last three passing TDs and no interceptions to tie for second-most in franchise history. A popular fantasy waiver wire pickup in Week 2 will be Chargers wideout Quentin Johnston as the 2023 first-round pick had two TD catches. And in his first game back with the Chargers, likely future Hall of Famer Keenan Allen had with seven catches for 68 yards and a touchdown. This is a good team. It appears the only injury of note from that game was linebacker Denzel Perryman. Don’t expect to see him for a few weeks with a high-ankle sprain. The Chargers are 5-1 ATS in their past six on the road.
Las Vegas Raiders
Pete Carroll’s Raiders debut was a success as his team rallied in the second half on Sunday for a 20-13 win at New England – certainly a lot easier opponent than the Chargers faced in Week 1. Two key guys made their Raiders debuts with Geno Smith throwing for 362 yards (second-most passing yards in a season opener in franchise history) and a TD, and rookie running back Ashton Jeanty, the No. 6 overall pick in this year’s draft, finding the end zone but otherwise limited to 38 yards on 19 carries. Second-year superstar tight end Brock Bowers has his third career 100-yard game but did injure his knee. Bowers dismissed it, but he may be listed questionable to open the week. Most teams down their tight end it’s not a huge deal. Bowers sitting would be. Linebacker Elandon Roberts injured his elbow in the win. That defence was the biggest reason for Sunday’s win, holding New England to just a field goal in the final two quarters. That unit lost eight starters from 2024; Roberts was one of the new starters. Las Vegas is 1-5 SU in its past six at home.
