Los Angeles Chargers vs. New England Patriots

Point Spread: New England -7 Date: Sunday October 29th, 2017 – 1:00 PM ET Location: Gillette Stadium, Foxborough, Massachusetts

Point Spread And Betting Analysis

The Patriots won and covered against the Atlanta Falcons to improve to 3-4 against the spread this season. Meanwhile, the Chargers are 3-4 straight up and 3-3-1 against the spread. New England opened as a 7.5-point home favorite and there has been little movement on the line. As for the total, it opened up at 49 but has dropped down to 48.

Los Angeles Chargers

The Chargers deserve credit for fighting back following a poor start to the season. Los Angeles opened the year with four straight losses but has bounced back with three straight wins to climb within a game of .500. Their playoff chances improved from just 2% to 17% over that span. However, the Chargers will be in tough to continue trending in the right direction when they visit New England this weekend.

The Patriots lead the NFL in total offense this season, which makes them a much more difficult test than the New York Giants, Oakland Raiders and Denver Broncos have provided for Los Angeles in its last three games. Phillip Rivers has done just enough to help the Chargers rebound with 1,816 yards and 12 touchdowns this season. He will need his best performance of the season this week in order to keep up with Tom Brady and the New England offense.

New England Patriots

Brady has already thrown for 2,208 yards and 15 touchdowns compared to just two interceptions this season. The Patriots offense hasn’t missed a beat despite sacrificing some of the short and intermediate passing game routes in exchange for more shots downfield. Wide receiver Brandin Cooks has been a stud in New England with 28 catches for 537 yards and three touchdowns. Meanwhile, tight end Rob Gronkowski has 29 receptions for 452 yards and four scores. The Patriots have shown they are capable of scoring points in bunches so it should be interesting to see how they fare against a Los Angeles defense that is eighth in points per game (18.7).

Meanwhile, a New England defense that had been historically bad throughout the first few weeks of the NFL season has allowed an average of 12.6 points per game over the course of three straight wins. It looks like Bill Belichick has made some adjustments and now has this team humming. The Chargers will have to play their best game of the season to win and for a team that is often shooting themselves in the foot, that seems like a tall order.

Los Angeles Chargers vs. New England Patriots Prediction:
