Chargers vs. Buccaneers Point Spread: NFL Week 4 Odds, Prediction

The Los Angeles Chargers have had an odd season. They won at Cincinnati in Week 1 in game where they really didn’t play that well. In Week 2, they played phenomenally but lost at home to the Kansas City Chiefs. In Week 3, they were flat at home to the Carolina Panthers and lost.

NFL Week 4 Point Spread and Betting Analysis

The over is 7-1 in the Chargers last eight road matchups against a team with a winning home record and 14-3 in the Chargers last 17 games in Week 4. However, the under is 4-1 in their last five games overall. Los Angeles is also 1-4-1 ATS in their last six games following a straight up loss but are 11-4-2 ATS in their last 17 road games.

The over is 5-0 in the Buccaneers last five games when coming in as the home favorite and 4-0 in their last four home games when playing against a team with a losing record. Tampa Bay is 2-0-2 ATS in their last four games when coming off of an ATS win and 5-1 ATS in their last six when playing a team with a losing record. The over is also 3-0-1 in the last four matchups between these two teams.

Los Angeles Chargers

Rookie Justin Herbert was the starter last week but was unable to lead his team to a victory against the Carolina Panthers in Week 3. He did finish with 330 passing yards to go along with one touchdown and one interception, though, which is promising for a rookie. He’s the third-ever rookie to have back-to-back 300+ yard games in his first two weeks. Keenan Allen was Herbert’s favorite target this game as he finished with 13 catches for 132 yards but they just weren’t able to translate those performances into many points.

Only scoring 16 against a weak Carolina defense just wasn’t good enough. They had 436 yards of offense, so they moved the ball, but four turnovers did them in. They can’t be as sloppy if they hope to win in Tampa Bay.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The Buccaneers appear to be getting their chemistry down as this season progresses. Tom Brady threw for 297 yards to go along with three touchdowns with no interceptions in last week’s win over Denver. This shows that he is starting to learn the playbook and settle down a bit since his rough season-opener against the New Orleans Saints. However, they will face a much harder task this week against a far better defense of the Chargers. They will need to shield Brady from their star edge rushing duo of Joey Bosa and Melvin Ingram to allow their receivers to work one on one with the cornerbacks.
