Cardinals vs. 49ers Point Spread: NFL Week 5 Odds, Prediction
It’s a key divisional game from the NFC West on Sunday with San Francisco hosting Arizona. The Cardinals are coming in off a 42-12 blowout loss at home against Washington last week, while the Niners snapped a two-game skid with 30-13 home win against New England.
San Francisco opened as a seven-point favourite to win on the NFL odds, with the total set at 49.5.
NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis
Money coming in on the 49ers has pushed the line to San Francisco -7.5 as of Friday afternoon. The total has been nudged up half a point to 50.0. A high scoring game wouldn’t be a surprise given these teams combined to score 125 points in two meetings last year.
Arizona and San Francisco are each 2-2 against the spread this season, although the Niners are just 2-6 ATS in their last eight games dating to last season. San-Fran generally delivers, going 11-5 straight up in their last 16 games as a favourite. Both teams have hit the Over in three of four games this season.
Arizona Cardinals
Quarterback Kyler Murray had a tough outing against Washington last week. Murray completed 16 of 22 pass attempts for just 142 yards and a touchdown and he was sacked four times. It was the second time Murray has failed to top 162 passing yards in a game this season and the third time he has thrown only one TD pass although he only has one interception on the year. You can bank on running back James Conner getting a lot of touches this week. Conner is averaging over 73 rushing yards per game in 2024 and he’s run for over 100 yards twice.
Tight end Trey McBride missed last week’s game with a concussion, but he is expected to play this week. Kicker Matt Prater hasn’t practiced this week because of a knee injury and it’s unclear if he’ll play. If Prater can’t go, Arizona will need to sign Chad Ryland from the practice squad.
San Francisco 49ers
Brock Purdy was efficient last week, passing for 288 yards, one TD and one interception. Purdy has been known more as a game-manager early in his career, but it’s worth noting he ranks fourth in passing yards (1,130) after the first month of the season. Jordan Mason had a monster performance last week, rushing for 123 yards and a touchdown on 23 carries. Mason has the second-most rushing yards in the NFL (447) and he’s rushed for 100 yards or more in three of four games.
One player’s status to monitor is linebacker Fred Warner, who suffered an ankle injury in Week 4 and is listed as day-to-day. That’s a hit to the roster as Warner had a key pick-six last week against New England. Tight end George Kittle (ribs) is also questionable after returning from injury last week. Warner and Kittle both missed practice this week, but head coach Kyle Shanahan hasn’t ruled them out against Arizona.
